MADONNA DROPS NEW VIDEO!

Madonna has released her “Give Me All Your Luvin'” video. The clip features Nicki Minaj and M.I.A., masked cheerleaders, football players and a lot of old-school Madonna references. The clip opens with Nicki and M.I.A. done up in cheerleader costumes chanting Madge’s name. It then cuts to Madonna kicking down the door of her suburban home, pushing along a baby stroller. From there, the video takes some unusual turns: football players tackling street signs, Madonna abandoning her baby carriage to hang out with her cheerleader crew, shots of her done up in black lingerie and a giant cross dancing in front of a brick wall. The video ends with Madonna tossing her baby doll to the side as one final message flashes across the screen: “Touchdown!,” a tip of the hat to her Super Bowl appearance over the weekend. “Give Me Your Luvin’” is the first single off her new album, MDNA, which will arrive on March 26th.

AND…

NFL APOLOGIZES FOR MIA’s MIDDLE FINGER DURING MADONNA’S HALF TIME PERFORMANCE

At Sunday’s Super Bowl, it wasn’t a “wardrobe malfunction” that got tongues wagging, but an appendage malfunction.

M.I.A.’s hand signal during her Super Bowl performance of the new Madonna single was a switch from the handgun motion she uses in the video for the song.

Madonna’s halftime show — which featured hip-hoppers Nicki Minaj and M.I.A. clad in cheerleader attire and pompoms, singing along to the pop star’s new single, Give Me All Your Luvin’— was upstaged when M.I.A. (aka Maya Arulpragasam) extended her middle finger to the cameras. A record 111.3 million viewers saw the British rapper’s brief obscene gesture during the telecast, the most-watched TV program in U.S. history, according to Nielsen figures.

Oops.

NBC had a five-second video delay on the show but managed to blur M.I.A’s raised finger only after it appeared on air.

Tweeted Perez Hilton: “Think she’ll ever be on live TV again?”

People “flipping the bird” during football games is not rare, even on camera: In October, Green Bay Packers linebacker A.J. Hawk was fined $10,000 for flashing his middle finger during a televised Fox game against the St. Louis Rams.

It just doesn’t usually come from the halftime entertainment.

“If you’re going to go all-in on the spectacle of performing on a halftime show in the Super Bowl, you should probably keep your middle finger down,” says Craig Marks, editor in chief of PopDust.com. “Who are you actually flipping off? It just seems out of place, and it’s not a good platform to try to be particularly rebellious.”

The Super Bowl is such a mainstream event, “things that at a typical performance would not make anybody bat an eye become the subject of a very intense focus,” says Rolling Stone contributing editor Anthony DeCurtis.

The rapper — who was one of Google’s most-searched subjects Monday — isn’t commenting on the incident, but such rude moments aren’t out of the norm for the music industry.

A shot of Johnny Cash giving the middle finger to photographer Jim Marshall during a 1969 performance at San Quentin Prison added to the Man in Black’s mystique. But when Kanye West interrupted Taylor Swift as she accepted a trophy during the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards, his image wasn’t helped at all. “That made him look like a twit,” DeCurtis says.

Usually in the world of hip-hop, foul language and gestures can be a boon for artists (see: 2 Live Crew).

“She’s supposed to be controversial,” DeCurtis says. “M.I.A. is certainly not on the scale of Madonna or Nicki Minaj, and it might help (her career) now that people know who she is.”

Marks isn’t sure whether the Paper Planes singer’s errant appendage — a switch from the handgun motion she uses in the video for the new Madonna single — will help or hinder sales for her upcoming new album. (The first single was released Friday. The title? Bad Girls.)

But Chris Willman of Yahoo Music definitely sees it as a plus for M.I.A. “I don’t think she’s ever gotten this much attention before,” he says. “That’s the kind of publicity you can’t buy when you have an album coming out.

“Who would have guessed that Madonna would be an afterthought in what people are talking about after the show? Madonna might be more mad than any conservative groups.”

NBC and the NFL later issued apologies for the incident.

“The NFL hired the talent and produced the halftime show,” NBC spokesman Christopher McCloskey said. “Our system was late to obscure the inappropriate gesture and we apologize to our viewers.”

Said NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy: “The obscene gesture in the performance was completely inappropriate, very disappointing, and we apologize to our fans.”

In the long run, the incident won’t be as infamous as Janet Jackson’s, when the singer’s breast was exposed for about a second while performing with Justin Timberlake during the 2004 Super Bowl. The FCC fined CBS $550,000, but that was fine overturned by a federal appeals court.

“Nothing freaks out America more than nudity while the children are watching,” Marks says.

That led to a run of more “non-controversial” Super Bowl performers such as Bruce Springsteen, The Who and the Rolling Stones.

“Madonna to this day courts controversy,” DeCurtis says. “In a certain sense, if you’re asking Madonna, Nicki Minaj and M.I.A. to get up on stage, you’re getting what you asked for.”

Still, there were the next-day mea culpas. The NFL issued an apology for “the completely inappropriate gesture,” while NBC said in a statement that its delay system failed to catch the “spontaneous” middle finger in time. The Parents Television Council was not amused either, calling the gesture “a slap in the face.”

Marks suspects the gesture was more premeditated than spontaneous, seeing how M.I.A. looked directly at the camera when she did it.

“The only mystery is whether or not Madonna approved of her message, whether she knew she was going to do it, or whether she tried to stop her or not. Maybe she put her up to it, who knows?” he says.

“My instinct is that (M.I.A.) recognized the overblown ridiculousness that is the Super Bowl halftime show. (Maybe) she felt a little silly for being up there in a mock cheerleader costume cheering for Madonna and she just wanted to make her mark somehow.”

The action and the reaction, however, both seem equally juvenile to Marks. “It’s amazing that people care so much about such a small little thing, but that’s the Super Bowl for you.”

Says Willman: “Everybody’s seen a middle finger before.”

NICKI MINAJ AWARDED FOR PINK FRIDAY SALES

Because Nicki sold over two-million copies of her debut album, Pink Friday, Birdman rewarded the fem-cee with a lavish gift – a diamond encrusted luxurious watch. AMBER ROSE RELEASES “FAME” ft. WIZ KHALIFA

Earlier this year, Amber Rose announced that she was in the studio every day, working on new music and now we get a chance to see what she’s been cooking up.

Her debut single, ‘Fame’ dropped this morning and with a little studio magic, Amber gives her first-hand account of the ups and the downs of the glamorous life. In the new joint, she sings over a pop tune while expressing that even though people think it’s easy to be her, they have no clue. Being flown in private jets and constantly being photographed while out shopping for exclusive bags sounds like a dream to most girls but Amber paints a different picture:

“Scrutinized,
being blindsided by all the lights,
The questions one made up
like these rumors were made up,
Can’t shop for clothes.
or by some cigs
Without paparazzi looking for a flick.
This is a new situation.
You’re an overnight sensation.”

Of course an Amber Rose debut wouldn’t be complete without a flow from Wiz Khalifa who drops a hot 16 to finish off the track. Oh, and this sounds nothing like Amber. More like an alter ego.

2011’s BIG THREE -x- 2011’s BREAK OUTS -x- Stars We Lost in 2011

2011’S THE BIG THREE:

LIL WAYNE, DRAKE & NICKI MINAJ

2011 was a big year for three rap acts that all come from the same label home: Young Money’s Lil Wayne, Drake and Nicki Minaj. Here’s a look back of what the untouchable rap stars accomplished this year.

One of the biggest things Lil Wayne accomplished this year was that his latest album, Tha Carter IV, amassed sales over 965-thousand units during its first week. The rapper’s fourth installment in Tha Carter series took the number one spot on the Billboard 200 chart and attracted over 362k in digital copies and over 603k in physical copies. The feat is especially impressive since Wayne recently spent nearly a year in prison and had limited televised performances to promote the album. According to his official website, Wayne’s I Am Still Music tour has reportedly become one of the most successful tours of 2011. The trek, which stretched along North America, Africa and Australia, has grossed 47-million dollars. To date, the album has gone certified double platinum after three months in stores.

Nicki Minaj had a crazy 2011. At the beginning of the year, her debut effort, Pink Friday, officially went certified platinum by the RIAA. She continued to promote her singles including “Moment 4 Life” featuring Drake, “Super Bass” and “Fly” with Rihanna and she joined Britney Spears’ Femme Fatale tour as well as Lil Wayne’s I Am Music II outing. In addition, Minaj also performed at the 2011 Billboard Music Awards. She set a new record on Music Choice’s Video on Demand service after she received over 1.4-million views in a single week for her “Super Bass” video. 2012 will see her release her sophomore album on Valentine’s Day.

Drake proved that taking your time, pays off. After a couple of push backs, the rapper’s sophomore album, Take Care, debuted at number one on the Billboard album chart and sold over 659-thousand copied in its first week. He’s had big singles including, “Make Me proud” with Nicki Minaj and “Healines.” The rapper performed at the 53rd Annual GRAMMY Awards and the 2011 BET Awards. He is also working on joint albums with Lil Wayne and Rick Ross. Looking ahead, he has released the dates for his upcoming Club Paradise tour, which will travel to cities in the U-S and Europe. The highly anticipated trek will begin next year on February 14th in Miami and wraps on March 11th in San Diego only to begin in Dublin, Ireland on March 24th.

J. COLE PREPARED HIMSELF FOR GRAMMY LET DOWN

Even though J. Cole was recognized in the Best New Artist category for the 2012 GRAMMY Awards, the rapper told LA Times’ Pop & Hiss that he certainly didn’t expect to be nominated. He shared, “I wasn’t thinking people had seen what I had done, so I had already kind of prepared myself for the letdown. But it caught me off guard,” he said. “It would be incredible to win. That’s an understatement … since I didn’t even expect to get nominated. But I’m not walking in there with the attitude that I’m the guy [to beat].” He is reportedly going up against The Band Perry, Skrillex, Nicki Minaj and Bon Iver.

His debut album Cole World: The Sideline Story opened at number one on the Billboard 200 chart.

BRANDY IS INSPIRED BY FRANK OCEAN

According to BET.com, Brandy knows that the end of 2011 will bring her that much closer to releasing the follow-up to 2008’s Human. The singer, who is working on her sixth studio effort, is working with Frank Ocean and says they have “great chemistry.” She explains, “We both understand music in the same ways,” she told BET. “To work with him on this album was great as well, and I hope I can get in [the studio] with him some more because his music is just so moving; I’m inspired by him. I think he’s a great artist and he hasn’t even touched on what he will touch on in the future.” Led by her new song, “Silent Night,” her upcoming effort will arrive in March 2012.

THE DREAM WON’T PRODUCE CIARA’S NEXT ALBUM

While many fans a wait for news surrounding Ciara’s next album, we’ve just learned The Dream won’t be contributing to the project. The hitmaker, who executive produced her Basic Instinct LP, confirmed on Twitter after someone asked if he will put his “all into it” like he has for Beyonce and Rihanna. Terius responded with, “Sorry but no I won’t be on this album because my contract doesn’t allow me to. I’m sure her fans are happy about that.” In addition, its currently unknown when the singer’s Epic Records debut will hit stores, we’ll keep you posted.

Are you interested in Ciara’s next album? Do you think she can make a big comeback?

T-PAIN SAYS JAY-Z MADE HIM FAMOUS

T-Pain believes in giving credit when credit is due. According to Rap-Up.com, the singer explained why he has tons of respect for Jay-Z, shortly after he released his anti-Auto-Tune anthem “D.O.A. (Death of Auto-Tune).” Teddy stated, “The crazy thing is, and a lot of people don’t see it like this, but if you really look at it, he made me famous,” he explained. “A lot of people see this as a bad thing, but it only made me more famous because no one knew who he was talking about. If I can be in Jay-Z’s category at the end of the day, I am fantastic. I love it.” In related news, his fourth album rEVOLVEr is out now.

LADY GAGA, ELTON JOHN, WILL.I.AM ON OSCAR SHORTLIST

The Oscar nominations are not officially announced until January 24th, but the short list for the Best Original Song has been released. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced the 39 songs vying for the big prize at the Academy Awards next year. Two of Elton John’s Gnomeo & Juliet tracks — including his Lady Gaga duet, “Hello Hello” — made the list, along with multiple tracks from The Muppets. Will.i.am’s Rio track, “Hot Wings,” Mary J. Blige’s “The Living Proof” from The Help, and Zooey Deschanel’s Winnie the Pooh track, “So Long,” are all in the running. The songs will be narrowed from 39 when voters are sent three-minute clips or view the tracks at special Academy screenings and score the songs. The Academy Awards will take place on February 26th at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood, California.

Noticeably absent from the list is Madonna, who contributed the track “Masterpiece” to her directorial effort, W.E. Reuters reports that the song, which is up for a Golden Globe, does not qualify because it’s placed a minute and a half into the end credits and not as “the first music cue,” per Academy rules.

NELLY TO DROP MIXTAPE FOR HOLIDAYS

Coming off a great year with his comeback album, Nelly 5.0, Nelly is reportedly working on a free project dedicated to his fans. So far the rapper has leaked a new version of Wale’s “Lotus Flower Bomb” and yesterday he dropped a new song called “The Champ.” Be sure to look out for his new mixtape O.E.MO which drops on Christmas eve.

APL.DE.AP GIVES BACK WITH BIG CHARITY AUCTION!

The Black Eyed Peas’ apl.de.ap is using the holiday season to give back. Last week he launched the Charity Dreams auction benefiting education in his native Philippines, where he serves as an educational ambassador. Apl is getting the word out and trying to help raise money and awareness for the cause. Every bid will allow users to buy virtual books, pencils, chairs, desks and other supplies, and help build virtual classrooms in an effort to combine gaming, social networking and philanthropy. Each time a bidder finishes a virtual classroom, an actual classroom will be named for that bidder once construction is completed on the new schools. One lucky winning bidder will get a private jet flight out to Los Angeles to spend time in the studio with Apl creating a custom track in his or her honor. They will also get a 2012 collector’s edition Ferrari, 250-dollars in cash and a trip to Las Vegas with 10 friends to spend New Year’s Eve with Fergie while staying in the Real World penthouse suite. The initial fee to place a charity bid is 99 cents. Organizers expect the final package to go for no more than a few hundred dollars thanks to a system in which each bid increases the top price by just a fraction of a penny. Each bid will also entitle users to an app, music download or playlist curated by Apl and featuring an exclusive song or the chance to have Apl follow you on Twitter. The auction at CharityDreams.com is on now and lasts through 9 PM ET tonight.
