RICK ROSS READIES NEW MIXTAPE

Rick Ross recently announced on his Twitter page that he plans to drop a new mixtape. The rapper, who just returned from touring in South Africa, did not give a release date, but fans can expect the project to include original material. The tape will arrive before his delayed album, God Forgives, I Don’t, arrives in 2012.

 50 CENT’S HEADPHONE SALES TO PROVIDE MEALS

50 Cent is on a mission to give back to those in need. In addition to releasing his Street King energy drinks to help feed kids in Africa, the rapper has announced that a portion of sales from his SMS Audio headphones will also give meals to the less fortunate. 50 told MTV, “With every purchase there’s a meal being provided through the United Nations World Food Programme,” he said, “And with this actual project, I decided I wanted to do something here in America. VH1 DIVAS CELEBRATES SOUL TONIGHT

Here’s a friendly reminder to let everyone know that Jennifer Hudson, Jill Scott and more are scheduled to perform during this year’s VH1 Divas. The ceremony is paying tribute to great cities of soul including Chicago, Detroit, London, Memphis and Philadelphia. JAY-Z TALKS NUTURING HIS ARTISTS

During an interview with MTV News, Jay-Z spoke about his artists and why it’s important to treat them as if they were his children. He explained, “I think running a label is a bit like having kids. When you know someone needs more help, you help them. When you see that someone can make it on their own … you see Kanye West or J. Cole, you see that sort of talent — you let that talent be. You let that talent find its way.” In related Jay-Z news, the rapper just concluded his Watch The Throne tour with Kanye on Sunday night in Vancouver, British Columbia.

SOULJA BOY RELEASES ARTWORK FOR PROMISE

Soulja Boy is reportedly looking to bring in the New Year with new music. During an interview with TheBoomBox.com, the 21-year-old shared plans for his upcoming fourth album Promise. He explained, “Right now I’m working on my new album to release from Interscope Records. It’ll be in stores at the top of 2012. I want everybody to support.” He said of the disc, “The album is just really showing the growth and maturity of Soulja Boy. It’s going to be dope. It’s going to be lot of great records on it, a lot of dope features, a lot of great production. I want all my fans to check it out.” The launch date for the follow-up to 2010’s The DeAndre Way is unknown, but Soulja has released the artwork for the project, which you can view via his website now.

KATY PERRY TEAMS UP WITH B.o.B. FOR A REMIX

Katy Perry has teamed up with B.o.B. for a remix of her song The One That Got Away.” According to Billboard.com, fans will be able to buy the jazzed-up track next week. The original “The One That Got Away” tune is Perry’s sixth single off her hit album, Teenage Dream.

BRITNEY SPEARS IS ENGAGED!

According to TMZ, Britney Spears engaged to her boyfriend Jason Trawick. Sources claim that he popped the question in Las Vegas and Spears recently posted a cryptic message on Facebook, that seems to point to her being engaged. Apparently, Trawick asked her dad, Jamie Spears, for her hand in marriage. Spears has been married twice before, once to Jason Allen Alexander and once to Kevin Federline. Kevin and she has two children.

JAY-Z, TIMBALAND HEADS TO COURT OVER “BIG PIMPIN” LAWSUIT

We previously reported Jay-Z and Timbaland were accused of allegedly sampling “Khosara, Khosara” in their hit song, “Big Pimpin.’” The children of a Bollywood composer named Baligh Hamdy filed a lawsuit and a judge recently decided that he case will go to trial. Apparently Hova’s camp only secured the “economic rights” to the song to use the sample, but they did not get permission from Hamdy’s children to sample, loop and rhyme over the original song. While it’s unknown what damages the plaintiff is seeking, a judge wants the jury to decide if Hova profited from performing “Big Pimpin’” during his live shows.

SWIZZ BEATZ TO OPEN ART GALLERY

During an interview with Life + Times, Swizz Beatz has announced plans on opening an art gallery. The hitmaker, who enjoys painting in his spare time, revealed that the gallery will showcase work that he’s collected during his international travels. He explained, “I want my gallery to be for young up and coming artists from around the world that people wouldn’t easily discover,” he said. “I feel like I found the new [Andy] Warhol in Japan, the new [Takashi] Murakami in Hong Kong—not to compare their work so much but as far as [their] thinking outside of the box. I found a couple of sick artists in Africa, in Mexico too.” In related news, he’s working on his upcoming album, Haute Living, which will drop in 2012.

PLIES FOUND LIABLE FOR SHOOTING

We previously reported Plies was facing a 10-million dollar lawsuit stemming from a 2006 shooting inside a nightclub in Gainesville, Florida. We’ve now learned that he rapper and his brother were found civilly liable for the incident that led to five victims getting injured moments before Pies was scheduled to perform at the venue. After the jury deliberated for eight hours, the victims were given a total of 200-thousand dollars.

His lawyer Robert A. Rush previously said in a statement, “The plaintiffs’ claims against my client continue to be without merit, we look forward to having this resolved in a court of justice.”

JANET JACKSON BECOMES FACE OF NUTRISYSTEM

According to her official website, Janet Jackson has announced that she’s the face of the weight loss company, Nutrisystem. The singer, who previously battled with yo-yo dieting and weight gain, is expected to appear in nationwide campaign with her success story. She said in a statement, “Dieting never worked for me, counting calories never worked for me, and denying myself the foods I love never worked for me. I needed a better plan, and I found it with Nutrisystem.” She said, “There are millions of women like me who want to be successful but don’t have the tools to do it on their own. I hope I can help inspire them.” The news comes just a few months after the icon released her latest book, True You, which is out now.

COMMON EXPLAINS WHY KANYE WAS LEFT OFF LP

During an interview with XXLMag.com, Common broke down the reason he failed to collaborate with Kanye West for his upcoming album, The Dreamer/The Believer. Since he’s been a longtime friend with ‘Ye, he wants everyone to know that the disc is being released on Warner Bros. He explained, “It’s on my own imprint as far as Think Common, yes, but I’m still G.O.O.D. Music-affiliated. That’s my family no matter what. Business-wise we just didn’t do the G.O.O.D. Music thing, but ‘Ye is my brother for good.” You can pick up The Dreamer/The Believer on December 20th.

Common’s last three albums, 2005′s Be, 2007′s Finding Forever and 2008′s Universal Mind Control, were all released via West’s G.O.O.D. Music.

AMY WINEHOUSE TO BE HONORED BY VH1 DIVAS CELEBRATES SOUL

Vh1 Divas Celebrates Soul will include a special tribute to Amy Winehouse. It was announced this week that Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings, Florence Welch of Florence and the Machine and Wanda Jackson will perform songs in honor of the late British singer. This year’s Divas will also pay tribute to the great cities of soul music, including Chicago, Detroit, London, Memphis and Philadelphia. Tune in to VH1 Divas Celebrates Soul to see the likes of Kelly Clarkson, Mary J Blige and more, Monday on Vh1 at 9 PM Eastern.

MADONNA SIGNS THREE ALBUM DEAL WITH INTERSCOPE RECORDS

Madonna has inked a three album deal with Interscope Records and will release her first album in five years in March. The first single from the effort “Gimme All Your Luvin,” will be released the last week in January before she takes the stage at the Superbowl Halftime show on February 5th. Madonna’s upcoming film W.E., which is nominated for two Golden Globe Awards, is scheduled for a wide release on February 3rd.

GUCCI TO DROP NEW MIXTAPE SOON

Now that Gucci Mane has been released from prison, he’s wasting no time to put out new music. Similar to T.I.’s recent announcement, fans can expect La Flare to issue a new mixtape called Gucci Classics 2, which will arrive on or before New Year’s Eve. As previously reported, Gucci just completed a six month sentence after pleading guilty to two counts of battery, two counts of reckless conduct and one of disorderly conduct.

RIHANNA SCORES SEVENTH STRAIGHT WEEK AT NUMBER ONE

According to Billboard, Rihanna matches her longest streak atop the Billboard Hot 100, as “We Found Love,” featuring Calvin Harris, spends a seventh week at number one. She had previously led for seven weeks with “Umbrella,” featuring Jay-Z back in 2007 and as a guest on Eminem’s “Love the Way You Lie” last year. LMFAO’s “Sexy and I Know It” is locked at number two for the sixth straight week and is hot on Rihanna’s heels as it tops the on Digital Songs chart, selling over 149-thosuand downloads. Bruno Mars’ “It Will Rain” remains at number three, while Katy Perry’s “The One That Got Away” leaps five spots to number four and marks her sixth top five hit from her Teenage Dream album. Flo Rida holds at number five with “Good Feeling.”

“We Found Love” also ties Adele’s “Rolling in the Deep” for the longest run at the top this year. The last song to score a longer run at number one was Ke$ha’s “TiK ToK,” which lead the chart for nine weeks back in 2010.

LADY GAGA TOPS FEMALE EARNERS IN 2011

According to Forbes, Lady Gaga is music’s top-earning woman in 2011. Gaga earned 90 million dollars from album sales, touring and endorsements, which doubles the estimated earnings of Taylor Swift and Katy Perry, who came in at number two and three respectively. Beyonce raked in a cool 35 million dollars to come in at number four, while Rihanna rounds out the top five with 29 million.

The numbers reflect earnings between May 2010 and 2011.

P!nk, Carrie Underwood, Celine Dion, Adele, Alicia Keys and Britney Spears round out the top ten.

Overall, U2 was Forbes’ top act in music, raking in over 195 million dollars.

STUDY FINDS WE DRINK MORE WITH LOUD MUSIC!

According to a U-K study, loud music makes people drink more alcohol. NME reports that research finds that alcohol tastes sweeter when loud music is playing and the noise makes it harder for people to work out how much they are drinking. Do you drink more booze when you’re at a loud concert?

MTV has just announced that Adele, Lil Wayne and Chris Brown will perform at the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards. This will mark the first time the “Rolling In The Deep” singer has ever played aVMA show. BIG SEAN’S FINALLY FAMOUS DEBUTS ON THE CHART

Earlier this week, Big Sean’s debut album, Finally Famous, opened at number three on the Billboard 200 chart and sold 87-thousand copies during its first week. However, the rap rookie isn’t too surprised, especially when he’s on Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. Music label and surrounded by great artists. NICKI MIANJ LEAKS TRIBUTE SONG FOR MURDERED COUSIN

Following the death of Nicki Minaj’s cousin, Nicholas Telemaque, who was killed on July 4th, the fem-cee has released a tribute song titled “We Miss You.” While no arrests have been made just yet surrounding the shooting, you can check out the track via RapRadar.com now.

· As previously reported, the 27-year-old reportedly died from “multiple gunshot wounds to the upper torso.” There are rumors that he was a victim of mistaken identity.

· The fem-cee initially reacted to the news by writing on Twitter, “Lived in Brooklyn his whole life. My precious cousin. My baby. Killed last night.”

JAY-Z TO TAKE 40/40 CLUB TO LONDON

XXLMag.com reports Jay-Z has decided to expand his 40/40 nightclub overseas and partnered with British soccer star Ashley Cole to open The 40/40 Club London. Hova said in a statement, “I’m excited about working with Ashley and NVA Entertainment Group on a range of new projects and The 40/40 London is going to be the hottest place in town.” It’s not yet known when the new location will open.

· In related news, fans can expect Jay’s new album with Kanye West, Watch The Throne, to hit stores on August 2nd.

MARSHA TALKS SAFE SEX MESSAGE IN NEW VIDEO

If you’ve checked out the visual to Marsha Ambrosius’ new single, “Late Nights, Early Mornings,” you know that there is an extremely obvious message about safe sex conveyed in it. The singer told SingersRoom.com, “I’m responsible for making very sensually charged music.” She added, “Some people are genuinely not conscious of what’s going on with themselves, don’t get checked, don’t get tested. J COLE PLANS TO DROP MIXTAPE BEFORE DEBUT LP

 

Fans are in for a treat! J Cole recently told Rap-Up.com that he plans to release a new mixtape before his debut effort hits stores. Cole compared the his latest to his last projects, The Warm Up and Friday Night Lights, saying, “I treated those like albums, this is going to be more of a true mixtape.” As previously reported, the Roc Nation artist’s first studio album, Cole World: The Sideline Story, lands on September 27th.

 

· In the future, Cole said he wants to work with Jay Electronica, Rihanna and Willow Smith.

SADE ISSUES NEW MUSIC VIDEO

According to her official fansite, Sade has released a new black and white video for her latest single, “Love Is Found,” The song is lifted from the band’s The Ultimate Collection album, which is in stores now.

ANDRE 3000 TO PLAY JIMI HENDRIX

Do you remember when we told you Andre 3000 was cast in the lead role in Jimi Hendrix’s long-delayed biopic? Well, it seems the film is still happening. Actress Hayley Atwell recently told Esquire magazine that she’s considering joining the cast for the independent movie and the rapper is still attached. There you have it.

ADELE AND KATY PERRY SCORE BEST SALES OF 2011

According to Nielsen SoundScan, Adele’s 21 is the best-selling album of the year so far. The effort has sold over 2.5-million copies in the U-S since its release back in February. Lady Gaga’s Born This Way, comes in at number two with 1.5-million, and over 70 percent of that total was sold its first week, when it debuted at number one with over 1.1-million copies. Katy Perry has the highest selling single with “E.T.” shifting a whopping 4.1-million copies, while Adele’s “Rolling in the Deep” is right behind, selling just over four-million copies.

LUPE, TREY SONGZ TO PERFORM AT MTV MOVIE AWARDS

We’ve just learned Lupe Fiasco and Trey Songz are confirmed to perform during the 2011 MTV Movie Awards. The artists will take stage for their first-ever televised performance together doing the rapper’s new single, “Out of My Head.” The news comes as the first batch of presenters for the show have also been announced: Ryan Reynolds, Blake Lively, Steve Carell, Nicki Minaj, Jason Segel, Jesse Eisenberg, Aziz Ansari, Danny McBride,  Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Selena Gomez, Emma Stone, Cameron Diaz, Leighton Meester, Katie Cassidy, Shia LaBeouf, Patrick Dempsey and Josh Duhamel. Be sure to tune in when the Jason Sudeikis-hosted event broadcasts live on Sunday, June 5th at 9 PM Eastern.
·       Lupe Fiasco said in a statement, “I’m excited to be performing on this year’s MTV Movie Awards. I’m looking forward to putting together another special performance for my fans.”

·       Trey said in a statement, “‘Out Of My Head’ is such a dope song and easily one of my favorite collaborations to date. LIL WAYNE TALKS WORKING WITH JENNIFER LOPEZ

 TYLER THE CREATOR ALBUM PREDICTIONS

According to HitsDailyDouble.com, Tyler the Creator’s newly released album, Goblin, is on track to debut on the Billboard 200 chart with estimated sales from 45 to 50-thousand. It’s currently unknown where the Odd Future member will land in the top ten on the chart, but we’ll keep you posted when the official Nielsen SoundScan numbers are revealed next week.

KELLY ROWLAND TITLES HER NEW LP

Kelly Rowland has finally come up with a title for her forthcoming third solo album. Billboard.com reports the disc will be named Here I Am. The signer explained that she “wanted people to know that this is the record, the sound I¹ve been working toward… that here I am.” Led by her hit single, “Motivation” featuring Lil Wayne, the project will be released this fall.
·       Kelly’s album will include contributions from Dr. Luke, Stargate, RedOne, Tricky Stewart, Rodney Jerkins, Jim Jonsin and Rico Love.

·       The singer also said of the title, “It just connected with my heart and the music as well. It stands for everything I’ve gone through and thought about for this record as a woman. It’s very strong.”

WOULD BOW WOW DO DANCING WITH THE STARS?

Now that Romeo has been kicked off this season’s Dancing With The Stars, we are already thinking which rappers will be considered next year. While promoting his latest film, Madea’s Big Happy Family, Bow Wow gave us a quick answer to if he’d ever put on his dancing shoes for ABC’s hit show and that answer is YES! DETAILS ON MARIAH’S LABOR

During a recent interview on Lopez Tonight, Nick Cannon spilled on what it was like being in the delivery room with his wife, Mariah Carey. The new father of newborn twins Monroe and Moroccan explained, “I just have a great, great respect for women now that I saw what they have to go through.” Cannon, who almost passed out in the hospital room, revealed that Mi Mi “was cussing in high octaves. I never heard so many cuss words so high.”
·       Carey and her babies will be discharged from the hospital later this week.

SOULJA BOY TO STAR IN TUPAC BIOPIC?

First Soulja Boy announced that he’ll take Tupac’s role in the upcoming remake of Juice and now, the young rapper is looking to portray the late emcee in his biopic. SB told MTV News that he’s considering starring the Antoine Fuqua-directed flick. Before fans get all rowdy or excited about his involvement with the film, Soulja added that he’s “still thinking about it right now.” He is aware of the pressure of taking on such a daunting role and he’s just honored that he was asked to audition for it.
·       Soulja will portray “Bishop” in the remake of Juice.

OMARION RELEASES NEW MIXTAPE

In case you’ve been wondering what Omarion has been up to, the former B2K lead singer has just released a new mixtape titled The Awakening. The crooner teamed with DJ Drama to host the 19-track project, which includes features from YG, Lil Wayne, Rye Rye, Method Man and many others.

Following her Bob Marley tribute on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, Lauryn Hill has added new shows to her current tour, Moving Target: Extended Intimate Playdate Series. The singer will be joined by New Orleans based Hot 8 Brass Band and Q-Tip on certain dates. In addition, fans can now expect Hill to take stage during this year’s L-A Rising alongside Rage Against The Machine and Muse on July 31st in Los Angeles.

According to JustJared.com, Beyonce provided a private listening party for her upcoming album, 4. After previewing five new songs from the project, the diva stated, “When editing the DVD [for Beyonce: I Am… World Tour], I noticed that the tone of my voice is different live [than my recording one]. So I used that live performance tone throughout the record.” She said of the disc, “I wanted to do something refreshing and different. KATY PERRY MAKES BILLBOARD HISTORY!

Katy Perry is the first artist in the history of the Billboard Hot 100 chart to spend an entire year in the top 10.  On the chart released yesterday on Billboard.com, “E.T.,” featuring Kanye West falls from the top spot to number two, after five weeks at the top of the chart, giving Perry an unprecedented full year lodged in the chart’s top ten.  All four of Perry’s singles off her platinum Teenage Dream album have gone to the top of the Hot 100 chart.

GAME GETS GOOD ADVICE FROM JAY-Z

While fans have continued to wait for Game’s R.E.D. Album, we’re starting to think he’s taking the advice that he got from Jay-Z…very seriously. The rapper has definitely sparked new interest in the project by dying his mohawked-hair red. But most importantly, he’s made his fans miss his music! The West Coast veteran is expected to release the R.E.D. Album by the end of the summer.

NEW BEACHY KEYSHIA COLE CLIP

ThatGrapeJuice.net has posted the new Keyshia Cole video for “Take Me Away.” The Taj-directed clip shows Keyshia and her friends being pampered in a beach house complete with champagne and a massage. “Take Me Away” is featured on Cole’s fourth album Calling All Hearts.

ESTELLE IS BACK WITH “BREAK MY HEART”

CEE-LO THINKS IDOL IS OVER THE HILL

The new singing show The Voice premieres just one week from tonight (4/26), and Cee-Lo Green, who is a judge on the program, thinks that it’s going to better than anything Simon Cowell has been involved with. According to Billboard.com, the “Forget You” singer said that he was offered a role on Cowell’s forthcoming show The X-Factor, but turned it down because he felt that shows like that, as well as American Idol, Cowell’s old program, “had run their course.” Green also added that he likes his show “better.”

· Other judges include Adam Levine, Christina Aguilera and Blake Shelton.

· Cee-Lo did admit that he thought American Idol has been better since adding Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez as judges.

CIARA ROCKS SUPAFEST

Ciara took the stage at Supafest in Brisbane, Australia over the weekend. According to ThatGrapeJuice.net, the singer performed hits like “Ride,” “Promise” and “Love, Sex, Magic.” Ciara’s Basic Instinct album is in stores now.

DR. CONRAD MURRAY SAVES A LIFE!

Dr. Conrad Murray, who has been accused of accidentally killing Michael Jackson, helped save a life on an airplane en route to Minneapolis. According to CBSMinnesota.com, Murray was flying on a Delta flight from San Francisco to Minneapolis Sunday morning, on his way to Boston. During the flight, the pilot made an announcement calling for doctors to help a passenger in distress. Murray and another doctor responded and stabilized the passenger. When they landed in Minneapolis, paramedics checked out the passenger at the gate. Murray continued on to Boston.

KATY PERRY SCORES FOUR CHART-TOPPING HITS OF TEENAGE DREAM

Katy Perry’s Teenage Dream becomes just the third album in the 18-year history of Billboard’s Pop Songs chart to yield four number one hits, as “E.T.” featuring Kanye West ascends to the summit. The song follows “California Gurls” featuring Snoop Dogg, the title cut and “Firework” to the top of the Nielsen BDS-based mainstream top 40 radio airplay ranking.

· The only prior albums to generate four Pop Songs chart-toppers were Justin Timberlake’s “FutureSex/LoveSounds,” back in 2006 and 2007, with “SexyBack,” “My Love” featuring T.I., “What Goes Around…Comes Around” and “Summer Love;” and Lady Gaga’s The Fame in 2009, with “Just Dance” featuring Colby O’Donis, “Poker Face,” “LoveGame” and “Paparazzi.”

· “E.T.” marks Perry’s sixth Pop Songs number one overall. She posted two toppers from her prior effort, One of the Boys, back in 2008 and 2009: “Hot N Cold” and “Waking Up in Vegas.” With six chart-toppers each, Perry, Beyonce and Mariah Carey trail Rihanna, the leader with eight number ones, and Lady Gaga and P!nk, who each have seven.
