MIZZ NINA Feat. FLO RIDA “TAKEOVER” : Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia  

In Malaysia, Mizz Nina’s popularity is as big as the fame of Lady Gaga, Katy Perry and Rihanna combined. She’s a platinum-selling entertainer who has been on the top of her game since the late ’90s and still going strong. No wonder that after all of her success at home, she is looking to broad her horizons both musically and geographically to enchant audiences globally with her new Enghlish-language album.

Inspired by artists like MC Lyte, Run DMC and The Roots, Mizz Nina didn’t start out her career as a pop singer with global ambitions. Nina started experimenting with music in college when she toyed around with hip hop beats. She co-founded the hip hop group Teh Tarik that was signed to a major Malaysian label and had several smash hits in the Asian nation.

After the success with Teh Tarik, Nina branched out into modeling and hosting gigs, and became a celebrated TV presenter on Malaysian TV. But after traveling the world, she felt the urge for pop and went back into the studio to record a sparkly pop album in both English and Malaysian. Lead track from that album was its title track, “What You Waiting For,” that included the sweet vocals of Colby O’Donnis.

With her new “Takeover,” Mizz Nina clearly aims for international success. Driven by a tight, punctuating beat, the track is a fun, catchy and slick pop ditty that was clearly intended for mass, global consumption. And even though lyrics like, “Houston, we got a little problem” may seem trivial to some, it is easy to remember and often the stuff that big pop hits are made of. (Download Mizz Nina feat.
