CHRIS BROWN, BEYONCÉ AND KANYE WEST LEAD SOUL TRAIN NOMINEES

Chris Brown, Beyoncé and Kanye West lead the pack with five Soul Train Award nominations each. Kelly Rowland and Adele are up for three. Brown is up for Best Male R&B/Soul Artist against Trey Songz, Cee Lo Green, R. Kelly, Eric Benet and Miguel, as well as for Album of the Year and Best Hip-Hop Song of the Year for “Look at Me Now.” Kanye West and Jay-Z are also up for Best Hip-Hop Song of the Year for “Otis,” while Kanye is in the running for Song of the Year for “All of the Lights” as well. Plus, Kanye is up for Album of the Year for My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy and for his collaboration with Jay-Z on Watch The Throne. The show tapes November 17th in Atlanta and airs on BET on November 27th. EMINEM’S SOUTHPAW GETS UP OFF THE MAT

Eminem has been circling the gritty boxing drama Southpaw for more than a year now. After Dreamworks shelved the project back in August, it seemed that the film may have been down for the count. But according to The Hollywood Reporter, Sony has picked up the flick, which would be Marshall Mathers’s first major movie role since his acclaimed debut in the semi-autobiographical 2002 drama 8 Mile. The movie is expected to start production early next year and will be directed by Antoine Fuqua, who famously directed Denzel Washington’s Oscar-winning performance in Training Day.

SNOOP DOGG AND WIZ KHALIFIA SHOOT VIDEO FOR FIRST SINGLE OFF STONER COMEDY SOUNDTRACK

 

Snoop Dogg and Wiz Khalifa shot their video for “Young, Wild & Free” on Wednesday night. The track is the first single off the duo’s upcoming stoner comedy, Mac & Devin Go to High School. The rappers took over a drive-in movie theater outside of L-A to film the clip. Wiz spoke to MTV News at the shoot saying, “This is a family affair man. Everybody that you see was all involved with the project. We all got love for each other, and you know, we just keeping it moving, right?” Mac & Devin Go to High School comes out in February.

T.I. AND B.o.B TEAMING UP FOR JOINT ALBUM?

Are T.I. and B.o.B. teaming up for a joint album? MTV News spoke with Tip recently, who said he’s been working with Bobby Ray, “We been goin’ in. We’re actually flirting with the idea of doin’ an album together called The Man and the Martian.” T.I. says the music they’ve been cranking out so far is “coming out real good.” We’ll be sure to keep you posted.

LUDACRIS AND GUCCI MANE GET “SNAKE N FRIES”

Ludacris hooks up with Gucci Mane on his new song “Shake N Fries.” The tune will be featured on Luda’s upcoming mixtape, 1.21 Gigawatts: Back to the First Time, set to arrive on November 15th.

BRUNO MARS TO PREMIERE NEW VIDEO ON WEDNESDAY

Bruno Mars will debut his video for “It Will Rain” on MTV next week. The song, which is featured on the soundtrack for Breaking Dawn Part 1, will premiere on Wednesday at 7:54 PM Eastern. The video features a never-before-seen clip from the film, which hits theaters November 18th. Immediately following the video’s premiere, MTV.com will air a live stream featuring MTV News correspondent Sway Calloway’s exclusive interview with Mars, plus Twilight music supervisor Alexandra Patsavas, who will discuss everything about Breaking Dawn.

· The Breaking Dawn soundtrack will arrive on November 8th. It also features music from the likes of Theophilus London, the Joy Formidable, Iron & Wine and Christina Perri.

MTV has just announced that Adele, Lil Wayne and Chris Brown will perform at the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards. This will mark the first time the “Rolling In The Deep” singer has ever played aVMA show. The news comes just days after we learned Katy Perry leads the pack of nominees with an impressive nine nods, including ones for Best Female Video and Video of the Year for “Firework.”  In addition, Adele and Kanye West tied with seven nomiinations, while Bruno Mars managed to receive four, including Best Male Video for “Grenade.” Be sure to tune in to the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards when they air live from the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday, August 28th at 9 PM (Live Eastern/Tape delayed Pacific).

·       Brown said in a statement, “I am excited about my nominations and to be back on the VMA stage. I have a special performance planned for my wonderful fans.”

KELLY ROWLAND JOINS U-K’S X FACTOR

We’ve just learned that Kelly Rowland has been confirmed as a judge on the upcoming season of the U-K’s X Factor. The “Motivations” singer said of the music competition, “The X Factor is an amazing show. I love Simon [Cowell] because he’s so honest. Everything he says I agree with.” In related news, Rowland is currently working on her next studio effort, Here I Am.

• Other judges for the show include Louis Walsh, Take That’s Gary Barlow and Tulisa Contostavlos.

50 CENT COMPLETES NEXT ALBUM?

During an interview on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, 50 Cent spilled some good news about the status of his upcoming album. The mogul, who performed with Nicole Scherzinger, stated, “I finished my new album now. I’m actually one song away from being done. I’m mixing the record. I’m excited.” In addition, Fif promised fans that they will hear new music later this summer.

• The disc is tentatively titled Black Magic.

BEYONCE RESPONDS TO COPYING AT BILLBOARD AWARDS

It’s hard to believe anyone had any complaints about Beyonce’s performance of “Run the World (Girls)” at Sunday’s Billboard Music Awards, but the diva did receive criticism for copying Italian singer Lorella Cuccarini. Bey explained it to AOL Music, saying, “My makeup artist showed me the performance of Lorella Cuccarini a year ago, and it inspired me so much.” She added, “I then met with the talented people who worked on it. The technology and concept were so genius. Thank God for YouTube or I would have never been exposed to something so inspiring. I never worked so hard on anything in my life as that performance for the Billboard Awards.” In related news, Bey’s highly anticipated album, 4, drops on June 28th.

DIDDY-DIRTY MONEY RELEASES NEW VIDEO

Diddy-Dirty Money are rolling out another single from their latest album, Last Train to Paris. The group selected and shot the video for “Looking for Love,” which features Usher. Fans can now check out the video of the Colin Tilley-directed clip on YouTube.

BRUNO MARS IS PLATINUM!

Bruno Mars’ Doo-Wops & Hooligans recently reached platinum status. When we last spoke to the “Just The Way You Are” crooner, he explained that the most rewarding part of his success is knowing that he remained true to himself. The disc sits at the number 17 spot on the Billboard 200 chart.

SELF MADE ALBUM PREDICTIONS

According to HitsDailyDouble.com, the estimated sales for Maybach Music Group’s latest album, Self Made Vol. 1, is expected to be anywhere between 50 to 55-thousand units during its opening week. It’s unlikely that the disc will claim the number one spot on the Billboard 200 chart as Lady Gaga’s Born This Way is projected to sell over 900-thousand next week. The final sales figures will be available on Wednesday.

NEW BOYZ LAND IN TOP 40 ON BILLBOARD

200New Boyz’s latest album, Too Cool To Care, debuted in the top 40 debut of the Billboard 200 chart. The rap duo recently told us that their success is only going to get bigger as they’ve already selected their next single, which is sure to be a smash hit. The guys clarified that the song title, “Better With The Lights Off,” is not meant to offend unattractive girls. The disc, which includes contributions from Big Sean and Tyga, is in stores now.

ROCK THE BELLS LINE-UP ANNOUNCED

The official line-up for the 2011 Rock The Bells tour has been announced and concertgoers will see performances from Lauryn Hill, Nas, Erykah Badu, Cypress Hill, Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Raekwon, Ghostface, Mobb Deep, The GZA and many more. The four city event will begin on August 20th in San Bernardino, California and wraps on September 10th in Boston, Massachusetts.

KILLER MIKE SELLS 4K IN FIRST WEEK

DIDDY TO BE HONORED BY ASCAP

We’ve just learned Sean “Diddy” Combs will be honored with the coveted Founders Award during the 24th Annual ASCAP Rhythm and Soul Music Awards. Puff said a statement, “To be recognized for my contributions to music by ASCAP, an organization that represents music creators, is a true honor,” He added that all he ever wanted to was to “make people dance and hopefully inspire others to never settle for anything but their best.” The event takes place on June 24th at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles, California.

•Previous recipients include Dr. Dre, Stevie Wonder and Garth Brooks. It is considered the most prestigious of all the ASCAP Awards.

KANYE SIGNS ON FOR HEINEKEN RED STAR ACCESS TOUR

Need a good concert series to check out next month? Heineken’s Red Star Access tour has teamed with Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. Music to kick off an 18-city outing beginning on June 9th in New York City. While tour dates are yet to be announced, fans can expect the show to hit major markets including Miami, Chicago, DC, Philadelphia, New Orleans, Atlanta, Houston, and Detroit.

POSSIBLE MOBB DEEP AND NAS JOINT LP?

According to HipHopDX.com, Havoc of Mobb Deep revealed that there’s a good chance that the rap group could record a full-length joint album with Nas. The rapper said, “[Recording] hasn’t begun [yet] but we tipped the iceberg a little bit with [a song called] ‘Dog S**t.’” He added that in making that song, collectively everyone shared “a mutual thought, like, ‘Yo, let’s make a f**king album.’ Everybody was like, ‘Yeah, that would be dope. F**k it, what we waiting for? Let’s do it.’” No further information is available at this time.

TINIE TEMPAH TO PLAY WITH USHER ON FRIDAY

Tinie Tempah’s debut album, Disc-Overy, bows at number 21 on the Billboard album chart, selling over 16-thousand copies. The English rapper only has two U-S gigs in the near future. He told us about his upcoming shows in Los Angeles and Chicago.

“I’m back out here with Usher, on May 27th I believe. His scent, Someday, will be available at Macy’s, Dillard’s, Nordstrom, Ulta and Sephora on June 20th.

LUDACRIS TALKS NEW ALBUM

According to AllHipHop.com, Ludacris is spilling new details regarding his upcoming album, Ludaversal. When asked what fans should expect from the project, the rapper said, “People can expect me to take it to a level they know I’m capable of.” He added, “If anybody has doubts, I have no problem continuing to prove myself. And I have no problem slapping the ones who’re sleeping to make them wake up. It’s about consistency.”

– Luda’s new film, Fast Five, co-stars Vin Diesel and is due in theaters this Friday (4/29).

– Ludaversal is due in stores in early 2012.

BEYONCE NOT PERFOMING AT ROYAL WEDDING

By now, you may have heard that Beyonce Knowles and Jay-Z have been invited to attend and take stage during Prince William and Kate Middleton’s upcoming wedding on April 29th. However, her rep has told Enterntainment Tonight, “The ceremony is not on her schedule and she has a shoot in New York on Saturday (April 30).” Looks like Bey won’t be performing after all.

COMMON TO STAR IN NEW MOVIE

According to HipHopDX.com, Common will reportedly star in an upcoming independent film titled L.U.V. The rapper will portray the uncle of a 13-year-old who is seeking a better life. While it’s unknown when the movie will open, Danny Glover, Charles S. Dutton and Megan Good are attached.

ARETHA’S BUCKET LIST…

Aretha Franklin sat down with People Magazine to talk about all the things she wants to do before she dies. The Queen of Soul revealed that her bucket list includes sailing the Nile River, seeing the Pyramids and the Sphinx, starring on Broadway and having tea with the Queen of England. The 69-year-old doesn’t know when she’ll start checking things off this list since she is “really taking far better care of [herself]” and “feel fabulous.”

RICK ROSS TO PERFORM AT BMI SHOWCASE

Rick Ross has been tapped to perform during BMI’s 14th Annual Unsigned Urban Showcase. The rapper will be joined by Travis Porter, Ace Hood and Sean Garrett. The event takes place at The Buckhead Theatre in Atlanta on Wednesday, May 18th. In related news, Rozay’s compilation album, Self Made, will be available on May 24th.

FORMER DESTINY’S CHILD ARRESTED

TMZ reports a former member of Destiny’s Child was arrested over the weekend. Farrah Franklin was booked and released for disorderly conduct around 6:45 AM on Saturday morning. Details are sparse but alcohol was definitely involved in the arrest.

· The singer, who was the replacement for LaTavia and LeToya Luckett in February 2000, is currently working on her debut album.

Bruno Mars is officially a worldwide hit. Just days after it was leaked on Friday, Britney Spears dropped her official remix of “Till the World Ends,” which features Nicki Minaj and Ke$ha. The song, which was written by Ke$ha, was produced by Dr. Luke and Dream Machine. Spears and Minaj have been hanging out a lot in the lead-up to their summer tour. They were together at the Factory nightclub on Friday night after Minaj’s show in Los Angeles. Spears later tweeted, “Early rehearsal after a late night with my girl @NickiMinaj. Can’t WAIT to get out on the road with you.”

Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez top AOL’s Regal Pop Couples list. The list was compiled just in time for Friday’s Royal Wedding. Beyonce and Jay-Z, Chris Martin and Gwyneth Paltrow, Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony, and Swizz Beats and Alicia Keys round out the top five. Katy Perry and Russell Brand, Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon, Gavin Rossdale and Gwen Stefani and Ryan Adams and Mandy Moore are also on the list.

CHRISTINA AGUILERA OPENS UP

While it has been a whirlwind year for Christina Aguilera, things seem to be looking up for the recently divorced singer. Her stint as a vocal coach on NBC’s The Voice kicks off tonight and she admitted to USA Today that she is in a more positive space now. Over the past year, Aguilera’s Bionic album under-performed, as her marriage ended. She said she was humbled by her divorce and everything else she has been through. The Voice films in Los Angeles and has allowed Aguilera to stay near her son, Max, and begin recording her new album. Christina says the next record will focus on her personal evolution. The Voice airs tonight on NBC at 9 PM Eastern.

· Aguilera says The Voice represents a new beginning for her in every sense. “Being in this business for quite a few years now, sometimes you do take things for granted. NICKI MINAJ CONFIRMS TALKS OF BRITNEY TOUR

Billboard.com has learned Nicki Minaj confirmed reports that she is in talks to join Britney Spears upcoming tour. During Casio’s TRYX OUT: NYC 2011 Launch Party in New York City, the fem-cee stated, “I’m in talks about a lot of things, ya know. I don’t know — oops, I did it again.” She later added on the red carpet that she could not confirm or deny her involvement with the Brit’s outing.

– MTV Radio attended her showcase last Thursday and watched Nicki perform hit songs including “Moment 4 Life,” “Roman’s Revenge,” “Did It On Em,” “Super Bass” and “You See Right Thru Me.” She also ran through all her guest verses while Fabolous looked on from the VIP section.

GUCCI GETS ARRESTED!


According to AllHipHop.com, Gucci Mane was arrested on Friday for allegedly pushing a woman out of a moving vehicle. The rapper was checking in with his probation officer when authorities handcuffed and charged him with a misdemeanor count of battery. The run-in with the law could result in jail time since the arrest was a violation of his probation. We’ll keep you posted.

AUTHORITIES SHUT DOWN TOO $HORT CONCERT

Too $hort fans are going to be sad to know that his upcoming show in Hollister, California has been cancelled. The rapper was supposed to take stage on April 22nd, but local police officers have denied a permit for the show. AllHipHop.com reports tickets went on sale for the show before the permit was approved by local officials.

· During a recent Golden State Warriors game, the rapper joined NBA cheerleaders on the court to perform his hit single “Blow the Whistle.”

LIL WAYNE TO CANCEL CANADA SHOWS?

Billboard.com reports Lil Wayne might not be able to perform in Canada for his I Am Music II Tour. According to a spokesman for the Canada Border Services Agency, the rapper’s criminal record could prevent him from being granted a work permit. Weezy will have to wait until a final decision is approved by the officer at the border crossing. We’ll keep you posted with further details.

· He is expected to perform for his Canadian fans on April 27th and April 29th.

JIM JONES TALKS “PERFECT DAY” VIDEO

If you checked out Jim Jones’s video for his new single, “Perfect Day,” you’ll notice that the rapper included sign language in the clip and now, he’s explaining why. Jones told the New York Daily News that someone close to him asked him: “‘Why don’t people in the music industry ever have people doing sign language in their videos because they love music, too?’” Jimmy then decided to incorporate the sign language because deaf listeners “can feel the beat like anybody else.”

FERGIE’S NEW FRAGRANCE

Fergie has launched another fragrance line. According to People.com, it’s her second foray into perfume and called Outspoken Intense. The Black Eyed Peas’ lead singer then went on to describe it as “a provocative blend of sexy confidence and daring femininity that captures the thrill and excitement of being center stage.” Read more at People.com.

Bruno Mars is being featured in the current issue of Glamour magazine. He’s in a spread about the Most Glam Leading Men, and was named a runner-up, just behind Jake Gyllenhaal, Ryan Gosling, Bradley Cooper, Johnny Depp and Leo DiCaprio. Not bad group to be a part of.
