BET AALIYAH TRIBUTE ANNOUNCED

According to BET.com, the network has announced that there will be a special tribute to honor the 10th anniversary of Aaliyah’s untimely passing. The show will be titled Aaliyah: One In a Million and will include commentary from Missy Elliott, Timbaland, Patti Labelle, Kelly Rowland, and more. Be sure to tune in on Thursday, August 25th at 8 PM Eastern.

DRAKE ADDS THE WEEKND TO TAKE CARE

During an interview with Billboard.com, Drake spoke about working with a new act named The Weeknd for his upcoming sophomore effort, Take Care. Drizzy said of his fellow Toronto native, “Not only did he inspire me to get out there and sing better on stage, he inspired me writing wise, music wise, just to better my product. He’s on my album a lot. We really collaborated a lot on this album.” Take Care on arrives October 24th.

DR. DRE’S BEATS PARTNERS WITH HTC

There are numerous reports Dr. Dre’s Beats franchise has landed a lucrative deal with HTC. The hitmaker actually sold 51-percent of the company for 309-million dollars. Interscope Geffen A&M Records CEO Jimmy Iovine said in a statement, “The HTC and Beats by Dr. Dre partnership is an opportunity for two world-class companies to redefine the smartphone industry and define the future,” stated Iovine. “For Beats by Dr. Dre, this represents a critical step in our continued mission to clean up the destruction of audio caused by the digital revolution and reengineer how sound is delivered, so the consumer feels the music the way that the artist intended.”

NICKI MINJA BREAKS ANOTHER RECORD!

According to her official website, Nicki Minaj has broken Missy Elliot’s record of having the most commercially successful solo single by a female rapper. Missy’s “Work It” stayed on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart for ten consecutive weeks back in 2002, however Nicki’s “Super Bass” has become the highest charting single to be released by a female rapper. In related news, her debut album, Pink Friday, is inching closer to going double platinum.

NAS REMEMBERS AMY WINEHOUSE

While many still can’t believe the unfortunate passing of Amy Winehouse, Nas recently spoke about his relationship with the star on BET’s 106 & Park. The rapper stated, “She was struggling with a lot of things in her life, but she was a real artist. She was like a little sister to me. We had the same birthday so she just had this big, big spirit for this little body. I wish she was here today. God bless her soul.”

He explained to HipHop-N-More.com, “I’m listening to music for a future band I haven’t made yet. I have 53 records and a direction for a new NWA type Hip-Hop Rock band. Real messages, very political.” No further details are known at this time.

DJ PAULY D SIGNS TO G-UNIT

Its official! XXLMag.com confirms that Jersey Shore’s Pauly D has landed a deal with 50 Cent’s G-Unit imprint. The DJ is obligated to issue three albums and he’ll endorse his very own line of headphones. Pauly said in a statement, “50 cent has also been somebody I look up to. We ended up linking up and we just clicked. We hit it off immediately with the music and everything like that. So, I’m definitely gonna be working with him. There’s been talks about the album and the headphones. I’m looking forward to working with that as well.”

JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE DIRECTS FREESOL VIDEO

After endlessly deflecting questions about new music, Justin Timberlake directed and made a cameo in the video for “Hoodies On, Hats Low” for FreeSol, who are signed to JT’s Tennman record label. Justin Tweeted a link to the video on Wednesday, telling his 5.6 million followers, “new music … if you like it pass it along.” In addition to paying homage to JT’s hometown of Memphis, Tennessee, by showing a number of local landmarks in the town, which also gave birth to the group fronted by the rapper known as Free, the clip marks yet another feather in the cap of the singer/actor/producer and talent scout. Timberlake appears in the clip rocking a hoodie, shades and jeans and adding background vocals to the track. FreeSol’s debut, No Rules, is slated for release later this year.

BRUNO MARS TO PERFORM AT THE 2011 MTV VIDEO MUSIC AWARDS

MTV has just announced that Bruno Mars has joined the official line-up of performers for the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards. The “Just The Way You Are” singer, who is up for four nominations, joins previously confirmed acts including Adele, Lil Wayne, Chris Brown and Young The Giant. In addition, the first batch of presenters include Jonah Hill, Rick Ross, Selena Gomez, Seth Rogen, Kim Kardashian, and Odd Future. Be sure to tune in to the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards when they air live from the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday, August 28th at 9 PM (Live Eastern/Tape delayed Pacific).

· The news comes just weeks after we learned Katy Perry leads the pack with an impressive nine nominations, including Best Female Video and Video of the Year for “Firework.”

Slash has confirmed that he recorded a track with Mary J. Blige. The former Guns and Roses guitarist has been in the studio working on material for his second solo album and confirmed the collaboration on his Twitter page. He wrote: “Just finished a session with Mike Clink engineering on a track with Mary J. Blige Sounds killer!”

ITEMS STOLEN FROM WINEHOUSE’S HOME?

It seems that some items have been stolen from the home of the late Amy Winehouse. According to British paper The Sun, the singer’s father Mitch has been notified that “one of Winehouse’s former acquaintances has taken copies of unreleased tracks, lyric books and letters from her home, including one of her favorite guitars and lyrics scribbled for her third album,” and that he’s “livid” about the situation. Apparently Mitch is willing to give whoever took the items the chance to return them before he gets the police involved. We’ll keep you posted.
