JA RULE GETS TWO MORE YEARS?

Ja Rule can’t catch a break. According to The Associated Press, the rapper was sentenced to two years of jail time for tax evasion. Apparently, Ja failed to pay over three-million dollars on back taxes to the IRS from 2004 to 2006. The troubled emcee is currently serving two years in prison stemming from weapons possession. His new sentence will “run concurrently” and could result in an additional 4 to 12 months. If that’s not bad enough, he must also pay 1.1-million in back taxes.

· Rule told the AP, “I in no way attempted to deceive the government or do anything illegal. I was a young man who made a lot of money — I’m getting a little choked up — I didn’t know how to deal with these finances.”

FABOLOUS JOINS GROUP WITH RED CAFÉ

Fabolous and Red Café have not only collaborated on a new song called “Fly Together,” but the duo has also formed a group called Bedrock Boyz. Vibe.com reports the artists have already recorded a handful of records. Red explained of their joint project, “It’s really just me and Fab but there are some guys we like you’ll hear. We did about 8-records to far. You can definitely look for that project soon.

KELLY ROWLAND DROPS NEW SINGLE

Following the success of “Motivation,” Kelly Rowland hopes to continue her momentum by unleashing a new single called “Lay It On Me” featuring Big Sean. The song is lifted from the singer’s much anticipated album, Here I Am, which will be released next week, on July 26th. Check out her new offering via her official website today.

DRAKE TALKS VIBE OF NEXT ALBUM

We’re all waiting to hear Drake’s sophomore album and even though the disc is far from being completed, Drizzy spilled some insight on the direction of the project. During a recent interview, Drizzy stated, “I think I finally have a grasp on who I am and who I want to be. I’m just really talking that s**t, that s**t I’m really saying what I feel.” He explained that his goal for the LP is to “dig even deeper” and “capture this moment in time at the most honest place I can.” He concluded that “sonically” he’s “picking up the energy” from his debut effort, Thank Me Later. No release date is known at this time.

· For the recording process, Drake also stated, “[Lil] Wayne lets me do whatever I want to do and I got really the people I grew up with here. That’s really what this album is about. It’s about really making this happen.”

MARY J BLIGE TALKS FILM PROJECTS

Mary J Blige is not only working on her new album, My Life II: The Journey Continues, but she’s also gearing up to star in the film adaptation of famed Broadway musical, Rock of Ages. You can expect both films to hit theaters early next year.

· MJB will reportedly share the spotlight alongside Tom Cruise and Alec Baldwin in Rock Of Ages.

· Her forthcoming album will be her tenth studio disc.

FACT OF THE DAY: MARY J BLIGE

Wanna know why we have such a tremendous amount of respect for Mary J Blige? Well, the singer’s first eight albums have all reached certified platinum status or higher in the U-S. Mind you, she’s only released nine discs, five of which have gone ripple platinum. Her last effort, Stronger With Each Tear, is her only project to only have gold status. Queen of Hip-Hop Soul indeed.

DETAILS ON KANYE’S WOMEN LINE

We previously reported Kanye West announced that he’ll be designing his first fashion line for women. While many assumed Yeezy would have little-to-no involvement in creating the pieces, he actually took sewing lesions from famous British designer, Louise Goldin. In addition, Professor Louis Wilson of British fashion school Central St. Martins told NYMag.com, “There are those who might assume Louise will be doing all the work and Kanye is just the face, I don’t believe this will be the case—he researches thoroughly and is hands on and committed to his work.”

· The mogul is reportedly looking to release the new line at this year’s New York Fashion Week. More importantly, there is no word yet on how much the clothes will retail for.

Over the weekend, 50 Cent released the first single from his upcoming album. The Cardiak-produced cut is called “Outlaw” and serves as the lead offering from the follow-up to 2009’s Before I Self Destruct. TYLER THE CREATOR STAGE DIVES WHILE INJURED

While performing at the 2011 Pitchfork Music Festival on Sunday, Tyler the Creator reportedly staged dived into a large crowd. The Odd Future ringleader was suffering from a broken foot during the performance, but that did not stop him from getting up close and personal with his Chicago fans. FOXY BROWN TALKS NEW MEMOIR, GOD AND MORE

During an interview with the New York Post, Foxy Brown showed off her new physique and spoke about recording her first album since 2000’s Broken Silence and writing a memoir called A Gift and a Curse. In addition to being more focused on her career, the newly engaged rapper stated, “The Foxy character and Inga Marchand are two different people. My fiancé calls me Inga. No one around me calls me Foxy. I go to church every Sunday. I go to Bible study every Friday night. I’m saved.”

· Foxy says she was offered two-million dollars to pose on the cover of Playboy.

· As for being relevant, Brown explained, “I live a different life. I’m not at every party; I’m not seen everywhere. That’s why people still care about my brand. I’ve never whored myself out.”

BEYONCE’S NEW SINGLE IS BIG IN THE U-K

Beyonce’s 4 may have slipped from the number one spot on the U-K album charts, but her newest single, “Best Thing I Never Had,” has claimed the top slot on the U-K R&B chart. The singer’s ballad easily surpassed Nicki Minaj’s “SuperBass” and Rihanna’s ‘”California King Bed.” In the U-S, her fourth studio effort is the number one album in the country on the Billboard 200 chart. LUDACRIS READIES NEW MIXTAPE

Before Ludacris drops his next studio album, Ludaversal, the rapper plans to issue a new mixtape to help tide fans over. The new project will be Luda’s first street release since of 2000’s Back for the First Time. The rapper explained, “We gon’ flood the streets with a bunch of music for all the fans that appreciate that.” He added, “It’s been a decade long, so I feel like it’s that time. It’s just rejuvenation. We gotta make sure we give everybody what they need right now.” No word on when it will be completed, we’ll keep you posted.

· The rapper’s last album was last year’s Battle of the Sexes.

PITBULL, WYCLEF CONTRIBUTE TO ZUMBA FITNESS PROGRAM

Pitbull and Wyclef Jean recently contributed to the popular fitness program Zumba, based around Latin music and dance. The pair told MTV News that Zumba’s diverse scope of genres and choreography drew them to the global phenomenon. Elements of hip-hop, samba, salsa, meringue and mambo inspire Zumba’s training program, which Pitbull and Jean demonstrated last week at the Zumba Fitness convention in Orlando.

JENNIFER LOPEZ WORKS WITH LADY GAGA AND REDONE

Jennifer Lopez got a hand from Lady Gaga and RedOne on her latest album, Love?. RedOne is known for his work with Gaga, having produced her hit singles “Just Dance,” “Bad Romance” and “Judas,” among many others. We caught up with Lopez, who told us just why she was excited to work with the producer.

“I think RedOne’s sound is very specific, but he also can be very individual for each artist he works with, which I like, but there’s still kind of a commonality in it. But it’s him, it’s him – the way he makes a record sound so big and important, I love. I love feeling music like that. As a dancer, it gets me excited.”

RedOne produced four of the songs on J. Lo’s Love? album including one written by Gaga called “Hypnotico.” Gaga also worked with RedOne on the production of “Invading My Mind.” Love? is out now in stores and online.

BOYZ II MEN, SARA BAREILLES TO JOIN THE SING-OFF

Sara Bareilles will join The Sing-Off as a judge this season. The show, which features fellow judges Ben Folds, Boyz II Men’s Shawn Stockman and host Nick Lachey, will premiere its third season on Monday, September 19th at 8 PM Eastern on NBC.

THE NEW BOYZ TALK ROCK INFLUENCE

The New Boyz are known for their hits like “Backseat” and “You’re a Jerk,” but the duo pulls unexpected inspiration on the Kool Kojak-produced track “Meet My Mom” off their latest album Too Cool to Care. The group explained how rock music influences their sound, which also includes elements of electro-pop and dance music. Check out Too Cool to Care, out now in stores and online.
