BEYONCE DEBUTS AT NUMBER ONE ON BILLBOARD!

 

Beyonce has done it! The singer has secured the number one spot on the Billboard 200 chart after her latest album, 4, sold over 310-thousand copies in its opening week. The news marks the singer’s fourth consecutive number one album. In addition, the diva has become the third artist, following Britney Spears and DMX, to see their first four studio albums debut atop the Billboard 200.

· The project is the lowest opening week of Beyoncé’s career. 2008’s I Am … Sasha Fierce entered with 482-thousand, B’Day sold over 541-thousand in 2006, and her debut, Dangerously in Love, arrived in 2003 with 317k.

DR DRE CONTRIBUTES TO GAME’S R.E.D. ALBUM

Need another reason to be interested in Game’s upcoming R.E.D. Album? The West Coast rapper recently told MTV News that “this album is the most incredible out of my career.” He added that he’s excited Dr Dre is contributing guest verses on the project, which is being executive produced by Pharrell Williams. Fans can expect R.E.D. Album to hit stores August 23rd.

· The disc features production from Cool & Dre, Hit-Boy, Maestro and Lex Luger, and features Nelly Furtado, Lil Wayne and Busta Rhymes.

RIHANNA TALKS INTIMIDATING MEN

In the July issue of Cosmopolitan, Rihanna spoke about what kind of guys she likes. But more importantly, the singer explained why it’s difficult for most men to even approach her. Ri Ri stated, “It can definitely be intimidating to guys to date someone in this industry. And it’s really hard to find a guy who doesn’t care about that stuff.” Rihanna promised that she could see herself with a regular dude and added, “I’m turned on to a guy by different things. It could be the way he looks. It could be his intelligence. It’s really a spontaneous thing. I get bored quickly. WAIT…USHER MADE OUT WITH RIHANNA?

 

 

During an interview with Fabolous magazine, Usher dropped some interesting news when he explained why he can’t add Rihanna to his “hit-list.” After describing the pop star as “beautiful,” the crooner spilled “she’s not necessarily on my hit-list – she’s like my sister right now. Or cousin – we have kissed.” It’s still not known if the pair just shared a one-time peck or had an actual fling.

· As for his love life, Usher also said in the mag, “Companionship is important – every man should have a woman to make him better. I’m dating at the moment – not anyone in particular, but I have a few people I’m interested in.”

GUCCI MANE RELEASED FROM JAIL

Gucci Mane has been released from jail! After serving three months for probation violation, the emcee celebrated his freedom by visiting a strip club in Atlanta, Georgia. The news comes just a day after MTV News reported the troubled rapper was in police custody for allegedly pushing a woman out of a moving vehicle back in early April.

PITBULL SHOOTS NEW VIDEO WITH MARC ANTHONY

Pitbull recently shot the video for his new single, “Rain Over Me,” in the Southern California desert. The video, which was shot near Palm Springs, California, features Latin superstar Marc Anthony. EMINEM SETS DIGITAL CHART ALBUM RECORD

News recently broke that Eminem’s Recovery has set a new record after he sold over one-million digital copies of the album in the U-S. If that’s not enough, Slim Shady also became the first artist in the last five years to have two albums debut at number one on the Billboard 200 chart.

· The news comes just a few weeks after we reported Em’s latest project, Hell: The Sequel, took the top spot on the chart last month.

JOHN LEGEND INVESTS IN WATER COMPANY

What’s John Legend been up to lately? He has reportedly invested in a San Francisco-based water company called HINT, Inc. The singer, who is currently on tour with Sade, said in a statement, “I enjoy drinking HINT water because it’s refreshing without tasting sweet or artificially flavored,” He added, “I joined them as an investor not only because I actually drink HINT water, but also because I truly believe in both the product and its ‘Drink Water, Not Sugar’ message and I am excited to watch the company grow.”

· The zero calorie drink is sold in stores including Albertsons and Bristol Farms.

CEE-LO & MORE AT MLB ALL-STAR GAME

Tuesday’s Major League Baseball All-Star Game is going to be about more than just America’s Pastime. That’s because some very prominent music artists are going to be involved as well. According to USA Today, Cee-Lo will be performing at the MLB All-Star Gala, an event that takes place on Monday. Then, before the actual game on Tuesday, Jordin Sparks will be singing the National Anthem. And if all that weren’t enough, Michelle Branch is performing “God Bless America” during the seventh inning stretch. Be sure to watch the game this Tuesday night at 8 PM Eastern on FOX.

BOW WOW PENS OPEN LETTER ABOUT HIS CHILD

We previously reported that Bow Wow’s mother broke the news that her son conceived a healthy baby girl named Shai. The rapper penned an open letter about his first child and explained why he didn’t want to break the news at first. Here’s what he said:

“Let me start off by saying I love my fans. Without yall I would’ve been left the game. For the past three years I’ve been battling life. Even thought about taking my own. I felt like as a kid I did everything and saw everything too fast, which spoiled my adult years. I felt as if I had no purpose to live (Thinking selfishly) until God gave me the illest gift of my life. No lambo, no black card nothing amounts to my lil girl. I waited so long to tell yall the truth, because I was nervous on how yall would look at me. Yall know everyone makes a big deal out of everything I do. MICHELLE WILLIAMS READIES COMEBACK LP

With Kelly Rowland and Beyonce focusing on their solo careers, the third member of Destiny’s Child, Michelle Williams, is working on a new project also. The singer said of the disc, “My album will be ‘inspirational pop.’ Think of Katy Perry’s ‘Fireworks’ or Natasha Beddingfeld’s ‘Unwritten.’ I want to give people a message of hope while at the same time get them moving with dance inspired tracks.” The follow-up to 2008’s Unexpected does not yet have a release date.

KERI HILSON EXCITED FOR I AM STILL MUSIC TOUR

Lil Wayne has just announced that he’s decided to extend his I Am Still Music Tour. The rapper’s successful outing will now continue all the way until mid-September. The trek will reportedly include new supporting acts like Lloyd, Keri Hilson and Far East Movement. Fans will also be able to see Rick Ross, who was a part of the first leg of the tour. The show, which covers nearly 40 cities, will begin on July 13th at the Comcast Theater in Hartford, Connecticut and wraps on September 11th at the Woodlands Amphitheatre in Woodlands, Texas. Britney Spears took to Twitter to show her support for Nicki Minaj after the death of Nicki’s cousin. Spears tweeted to fans to “keep up the amazing love and support” for her Femme Fatale tourmate. Minaj’s cousin was murdered near his home in Brooklyn, and it is speculated that his killing was a result of mistaken identity.

PIA TOSCANO SIGNS DEAL; PREPS DEBUT SINGLE!

Former American Idol contestant Pia Toscano has signed a recording contract with Interscope Records. The Queens, New York native, who was shockingly voted off Idol, will release her debut single, “This Time,” on Tuesday. Toscano will perform the song all summer long on the road with the American Idols Live! 2011 Tour, which is now underway and concludes on September 10th in Rochester, New York. The song was written and co-produced by Esther Dean, who is known penning hits for such artists as Nicki Minaj, Katy Perry, Mary J. Blige, Christina Aguilera, Rihanna and many more.

EMINEM HEADLINES OSHEAGA FESTIVAL

According to MTV.com, Emimen has just announced that he will headline this year’s Osheaga Music and Arts Festival. The three-day long event will be held this July in Montreal, Canada. The news comes just a month after Slim Shady revealed that he’s scheduled to perform at the Bonnaroo 2011 Music & Arts festival and then head overseas for the V Festival in the U-K.

· Em will join Lil Wayne, J.Cole, Big Boi and Wiz Khalifa at Bonnaroo, which takes place June 9th through the 12th in Manchester, Tennessee.

· The V Fest will include performances from Arctic Monkeys, Rihanna, and Plan B.

KERI HILSON POSES NUDE FOR ALLURE


Keri Hilson has decided to strip down for Allure Magazine’s annual Body Issue. The “Pretty Girl Rock” singer said of the pictures, “We do a lot of things to seek validation: I have to get more expensive handbags or fake lashes or fake boobs. GUCCI MANE’S ARREST DETAILS SURFACE

Gucci Mane was arrested last week for allegedly pushing a woman out of a moving vehicle and now, there is more info on the incident. According to XXLMag.com, new details reveal that the unnamed woman got into the white Hummer thinking Mane was taking her out for breakfast. Gucci allegedly wanted to take her to a motel and offered her 150 dollars. When she refused, that’s when the rapper opened the passenger side door and began to push her out of the car while it was in motion. He is currently being held on a five-thousand dollars bond in DeKalb County Jail. We’ll keep you posted with further information.

NICKI INSPIRED BY MARGE SIMPSON

If you noticed something about different about Nicki Minaj, it’s probably her new larger-than-life hairstyle. The fem-cee told People.com that she’s drawn inspiration from “Marge Simpson” from The Simpsons. Nicki stated, “I realize that she was cutting edge and before her time. So shout out to ‘Marge.’” While on the subject of hair, the rapper’s healthy obsession with wigs help her “feel happy.” She added, “Wearing them makes me feel that I can be a different person every day and that is kind of exciting.”

Rap-Up.com reports Estelle has teamed with Rick Ross for her new single, “Break My Heart.” The cut is lifted from the singer’s upcoming third studio effort, All Of Me. The lead offering is expected to premiere on Monday.

Bravo will launch a music competition series called Platinum Hit next month. According to Billboard, Jewel will host the show that features musicians battling through songwriting challenges centered around various themes. Former American Idol judge Kara DioGuardi will act as head judge, while Leona Lewis, Natasha Bedingfield, Taio Cruz, Donna Summer, Jermaine Dupri and Ryan Tedder will all guest judge through the season. Platinum Hit debuts May 30th at 10 PM Eastern on Bravo.

Julien’s Auctions says a lone glove worn by Jackson during the Bad tour sold for 330-thousand dollars on Saturday night. A jacket signed by Jackson brought in 96-thosuand dollars and a fedora he wore on stage went for 72-thousand dollars. Julien’s Auctions says the two-day event brought in more than three-million dollars.

VH1.com reports MC Lyte has given her input on the ongoing drama between Lil’ Kim and Nicki Minaj. The rap pioneer stated, “Those who really need to be worried by Nicki are Fergie, Gwen Stefani, Nelly Furtado [because] Nicki is coming out to win.” The “Ain’t No Other” rapper explained that Nicki is “not thinking of the block. She’s not just thinking of the city. So she’s able to handle so many areas of what it takes right now to be an international star.” Minaj has yet to respond to Kim’s “Black Friday” diss record, which surfaced during Thanksgiving weekend.

JT HURT WHILE FILMING UPDATE

Last Wednesday, Justin Timberlake injured his leg while filming his new flick, Now, and now, FOX, the studio behind the movie, told TheInsider.com that “production has taken a brief hiatus and will resume shortly.” It’s a little odd, because even though JT suffered “a muscle injury to his calf,” he was able to return to work on Thursday, and yet production still was halted. The Black Eyed Peas are one of the biggest groups in the world, and frontman will.i.am thinks he knows why. According to ContactMusic.com, Will attributes the commercial failure of his 2007 solo album, Songs About Girls, explaining that if it had been successful, it would have “changed everything within the Black Eyed Peas.” He went on, saying that “because that album did not succeed, it taught me what to do with the Peas and what not to do.” The group’s latest album, The Beginning, is out now.

WILL.I.AM TEAMS UP WITH OPRAH

Will.i.am’s song “Own It” is playing in movie theaters across the country. It’s all part of an ad campaign for Oprah Winfrey’s forthcoming OWN TV channel, which launches on January 1st. According to the Associated Press, Will is going to be featured in a series on the channel next summer. “Own It” is also on his group, the Black Eyed Peas’, new album, The Beginning, which is out now.

CEE-LO TALKS GWYNETH

Cee-Lo Green received four GRAMMY nominations for his song “F**k You,” including for Record and Song of the Year. We caught up with him shortly after the announcement and asked his thoughts on Gwyneth Paltrow’s Glee version of the song.

“I was pleasantly surprised. I was impressed. I had no idea she was a vocalist in the least bit and she did a great job.”

“F**k You” is also up for Best Urban/Alternative Performance and the video for the song is vying for Best Short Form Music Video. The 53rd Annual GRAMMY Awards will air live on February 13th at 8 PM Eastern on CBS.

T.I. GETS DROPPED BY AXE

According to TMZ, T.I. has officially been removed as a spokesman for Axe
body spray. A rep for the company explained in a statement, “We will no
longer feature T.I. in our promotional campaign.” The news comes just days
after Tip learned that he will head back to prison for violating the terms
of his probation.

B.O.B. NUMBER NINE ON MTV’S HOTTEST MC’S LIST

We’ve just learned B.o.B. has claimed the number nine spot on MTV’s annual
Top Ten Hottest MCs. The rap rookie’s debut album, The Adventures Of Bobby
Ray, gave birth to “Nothin’ On You” featuring Bruno Mars, “Airplanes”
featuring Hayley Williams of Paramore and “Magic” – all of which reached the
top ten on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. After opening for Jay-Z and Eminem
at Comerica Park in Detroit, it’s clear the Grand Hustle artist has
officially made it. Fans can expect the final list to be revealed on Sunday,
October 24th on MTV2.

MARIAH TO APPEAR ON EXTREME MAKE OVER

MTV News confirms Mariah Carey made a surprise visit to Baker High School in
Florida to announce that cheerleading coach Finis Gaston will appear on
Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. Christmas has come early for the Gaston
family, who will head to Disney World until their new home is completed.
Viewers can watch this special episode when it airs on December 12th on ABC.

KANYE CONTEMPLATED SUICIDE

According to the Associated Press, Kanye West may have been riding high
during the L-A premiere of his new film, Runaway, but he revealed that there
were times when he contemplated suicide. The controversial rapper did not
specify when he considered taking his own life but he told the audience
right before the screening that he “will not give up on life again.” Ye
stated, “There’s so many people that will never get the chance to have their
voice heard. I do it for them.” You will be able to watch the rapper’s film
debut at 8 PM Eastern on MTV and BET on Saturday.

KERI AND CIARA SQUASH THE BEEF

Good news! R&B singers Ciara and Keri Hilson have gone out of their way to
prove that there is no drama between them. During an UStream session on
Monday, the entertainers smiled and laughed together and stated that the
rumored beef is non-existent. Ci Ci added, “We’re women, supporting women,
uplifting each other.” There you have it.

WAKA’S BOOKING AGENT GETS SUED

According to TheBoomBox.com, Waka Flocka Flame’s booking agent is facing a
million dollar lawsuit for a missed concert appearance. In June 2009, the
“No Hands” rapper was expected to take the stage at a Birmingham night club,
but he never showed up. An Alabama-based promotions company, G.D.B., is
seeking over six figures in punitive damages and 60-thousand in deposits
from the booking agent and Waka’s manager/mom, Debra Antney. We’ll keep you

BEYONCE LAUNCHES TEMPORARY TATTOO LINE

According to NYMag.com, Beyonce Knowles has teamed with an airbrush make-up
company, Temptu, to create a new temporary tattoo line. The basic ink kits
will hit stores November 1st through Bey’s fashion company with her mom
Tina, House of Dereon. Tina said in a statement that the tattoos will
resemble “a Sixties-pinup-girl meets-futuristic-biker-chick theme.” She
explained all designs “are waterproof and designed to last for two to five
days.”

JAY-Z AND BEYONCE RUMORS ARE TRUE!

Hip-hop power couple Jay-Z and Beyonce will reportedly welcome their first child together as new reports claim the Grammy-winning performer is pregnant. The singer’s close associates gave already confirmed the pregnancy.Rumors have swirled in the past about a pregnancy for singing sensation Beyonce Knowles and husband/rapper Jay Z. But this time, the rumors may be true. US Weekly magazine reported on Wednesday that ‘B’ -as Jay Z often refers to her- is in fact pregnant. The magazine says the exclusive comes with confirmation from close friends. Knowles, 29, is reportedly in her first trimester. (My Fox NY)

Jay’s former Def Jam boss and Beyonce’s sister have sent their well-wishes to the couple.

“Jay has been all about family since I met him, and he’s always going to be,” record executive Kevin Liles, who has known the rapper for years, tells Us. “I wish them the best.” Knowles’ sister Solange — and mom to Julez, 6 — agrees. “She’s got the most beautiful heart,” she tells Us of her big sis. “She’ll be a great mom.” (Us Magazine)

Earlier this year, Jay-Z said he would like to one day become a father.

“I’d like to be a dad some day and I love children. You start your life with expectations and dreams, then life unfolds and it doesn’t always turn out the way you imagined. Life is what it is. WILLOW EYES LADY GAGA COLLAB

During a recent interview, Willow Smith spilled that she would love to
collaborate with Lady Gaga. Will and Jada Pinkett Smith’s daughter admires
that the pop icon is “just so amazing, she’s a free person. She’s a free
girl, baby.” Just one day after releasing the video for “Whip My Hair,” the
nine-year-old singer revealed why she loves being signed to Jay-Z’s Roc
Nation label. She stated, “It’s amazing being on that label because it’s all
about having fun and being creative and doing what you want to do inside.”

OMARION HIT WITH HEFTY TAX LIEN

SingersRoom.com confirms Omarion reportedly owes the IRS over 110-thousand
dollars in unpaid taxes. The R&B singer failed to pay income taxes to the
state of California in 2003, 2005 and 2006. The real shocker is that the
former lead singer of B2K actually filed for bankruptcy back in January but
the case was never granted. He is yet to comment on the liens filed.

The ever-expanding roster for Jay-Z’s Roc Nation has just recruited a new

Nation/Columbia Records. The Pen, who just leaked the remix for “She Geeked”
featuring Busta Rhymes, Ludacris and Twista, will release his debut album
early next year!

NE-YO PENS SONGS FOR BIEBER, UNDERWOOD

Billboard.com has learned Ne-Yo is not only putting the finishing touches on
his upcoming album, Libra Scale, but he’s also writing for other artists.
The “One In A Million” crooner explained that he’s “trying to expand, trying
to do it all” by penning songs for pop stars like including Justin Bieber,
Carrie Underwood, Tim McGraw, Rihanna and Beyonce. Ne-Yo says of the Bieber
track that he delivered “tangible records, the kind of records that will
grow with [Justin] and allow his fans to grow with him.” The songwriter is
also looking to get studio time with Jennifer Hudson and Monica before he
releases Libra Scale on November 22nd.

MARC ANTHONY FORCED TO RESCHEDULE CONCERT

According to the Associated Press, Marc Anthony was forced to cancel a show
in Puerto Rico on Sunday night due to a severe sore throat.  A doctor
ordered the singer to rest his voice for 48 hours.  He’s set to take the
stage tonight for his rescheduled show at the Puerto Rico Coliseum. Anthony
performed a sold-out concert on Saturday night at the same venue. He was
joined on stage by his wife, Jennifer Lopez, for the final number of the
night, a duet of “Preciosa.”

DID GAGA ALMOST GET MARRIED IN GREECE?

Lady Gaga just finished a vacation in Greece with her rumored boyfriend, Luc
Carl, and apparently, the couple went through a “spiritual commitment”
ceremony while on the island of Crete.  A source told Grazia magazine that
it was “their first step towards marriage,” and that they “exchanged rings”
and are planning a “big Italian-style wedding” sometime down the road.

WHO IS MADONNA’S SUPPOSED NEW MAN?

Some more info is coming out about Madonna’s supposed new boyfriend.
According to the New York Post, Brahim Zaibat is a French dancer and the

line.  The duo was rumored to be seen hooking up at a New York City club
last week.

NICKI MINAJ SETS BILLBOARD RECORD

We’ve just learned Nicki Minaj has solidified her importance in hip hop by having a record number of entries on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Lil Wayne’s protégé laid verses on seven songs that not only charted but also became the highest selling downloads of 2010. According to Nielsen Soundscan, the tracks include Ludacris’ “My Chick Bad” (1,246,000), Lil Wayne’s “Knockout” (519k), Trey Songz’ “Bottoms Up” (518k), Usher’s “Lil Freak” (508k), Sean Kingston’s “Letting Go (Dutty Love)” (377k) and Jay Sean’s “It Ain’t The End” (355k). The news comes a month after the rapper was given her first number one rap single, “Your Love,” on Billboard’s rap chart. Look for Pink Friday on November 23rd!

LUPE FIASCO GETS RELEASE DATE

Lupe Fiasco might have started a new trend. Shortly after his fans planned to rally outside of Atlantic Records in protest of the company for shelving his Lasers album, the rapper has been given the green light! Fans will be able to purchase Lasers on March 8th.

WAKA FLOCKA AND BRUNO’S PROJECTED SALES

After issuing his debut album, Flockaveli, it looks like Waka Flocka Flame’s first week sales are estimated to move nearly 40-thousand units. Hits Daily Double reports the “No Hands” rapper is likely to have a greater impact on the Billboard 200 chart than Pimp C’s posthumous effort, The Naked Soul of Sweet Jones. Elsewhere, Bruno Mars’ newly released Doo-Wops and Hooligans LP is projected to sell 45 to 50-thousand units in its opening seven days. JAY-Z BATTLED BUSTA RHYMES?

We had no idea Busta Rhymes and Jay-Z attended the same high school in Brooklyn with the late Notorious B.I.G.! What’s more surprising is Busta recalling to MTV News the day he actually battled Hova in the cafeteria. The rapper agreed to step to Jay because, “I knew how to freak it, and he knew how to freak it.” However, Bussa-Bus says Jay “kind of got the best of the situation. I got to give it up. He was so ill and his arsenal was so long that he had more than what I did. I spit my one rap, and my tank was empty real fast. He came with two or three after that, and I was like, ‘Here we go.’ But I gave it my best. That was probably the fist time that I lost a battle that mattered. [Jay-Z] always exemplified greatness as an MC. He was a scientist with it.

KERI FLATTERED BY KANYE COMPLIMENTS

Rap-Up.com has learned that Keri Hilson was “taken aback” by Kanye West revealing on Twitter that he loved her debut project, describing her upcoming album, No Boys Allowed, as “super crazy.” The Atlanta native explained that she “didn’t know he even had my album, so it was an incredible honor.” After recruiting Ye on “Knock You Down,” Miss Keri Baby shared, “We did a bunch of stuff. We just clowned around, played around in the studio. A lot of the stuff we did had no aim. We just kind of created.” It’s unknown if their recent collaboration will make the final tracklist for No Boys Allowed, which will land in stores on November 30th.

B.O.B TALKS SOPHOMORE ALBUM

According to XXLMag.com, B.o.B. is currently recording the follow-up to his impressive debut, B.o.B Presents: The Adventures of Bobby Ray. The Grand Hustle artist didn’t want to give too many details away but he promised that the forthcoming project will not be released “unless it’s better than the last album.” In related news, Bobby is expected to perform in Fresno, California for his Shooting Stars tour. JUSTIN LOVES VINYL

Justin Timberlake thinks vinyl records sound better than digitalized tunes. The 29-year-old pop musician and actor told German newspaper Frankfurter Rundschau on Thursday that he loves putting on records featuring oldies from the Beach Boys and early Beatles, claiming they “sound warmer” and “more vintage” than digital versions.

 CEE-LO GETS COVERED

NME reports that Band of Horses recently covered Cee-Lo Green’s track “Georgia.” The band reportedly recorded the song with the University of Georgia Redcoat Marching Band. Singer Ben Bridewell says the song pays tribute to the state, which he describes as a “second home.” Green also recently covered the Band of Horses song “No One’s Gonna Love You” and the two tracks are gonna be released on a spilt seven-inch single. PITBULL PREPS PLANET PIT

Pitbull has had his share of success lately with tracks like the “Jersey Shore” soundtrack song “I Like It” with pal Enrique Iglesias, and “Hey Baby (Drop It to the Floor)” featuring T-Pain.  The Miami-based rapper has tapped some big names for his upcoming album, Planet Pit, which is due in December.  Pitbull collaborated with Akon, Shakira, and Iglesias plus he has tracks produced by Rodney Jerkins, Polow Da Don, David Guetta and Pharrell Williams.  Planet Pit arrives in stores on December 8th.

PITBULL TALKS SUCCESS

Armando Christian Pérez, better known as Pitbull, has released a new single, “Hey Baby (Drop It to the Floor)” featuring T-Pain, which debuts at number 51 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart this week.  The versatile rapper has been a force in the game since releasing his 2005 debut album, Money Is A Major Issue.  Pitbull told us he attributes his success to not following the pack. 

“Everybody went right I went left, soon as everybody started going left I’m going back right, just trying to be innovative trying to be creative, trying to do thing that people are scared to do, just thinking out the box.”

Pitbull will release his first all Spanish album, Armando, on November 2nd.  His Planet Pit album which features “Hey Baby (Drop it to the Floor)” will arrive in stores in December. 

SHONTELLE AND RIHANNA HOOK UP

According to Rap-Up.com, Shontelle recently linked up with her childhood friend Rihanna to pen the track “Man Down” for Ri’s fifth album, Loud.   The Barbadian natives went into the studio together to record the track right after one of Rihanna’s concerts.  Shontelle said RiRi walked off the stage and right into the studio bus to get to work.  She added that the song is “very dramatic” and was easy to write based on the duo’s comfort level, which came from them growing up together.

MJ AND P!NK TOP MYSPACE POLL

Michael Jackson and P!nk have been named the best solo artists of all time, according to a MySpace poll.  The late hitmaker beat Justin Timberlake and Bob Marley, who came in second and third respectively, to land the top male singer title, while Pink topped Lady Gaga, Madonna and Britney Spears as the number one pop princess. AC/DC were lauded as the best band, beating out Nirvana and The Red Hot Chili Peppers. 

FORMER GIRLICOUS SINGER PLEADS GUILTY

Former Girlicious singer Natalie Meija has pleaded guilty to felony cocaine possession and has received a deferred judgment that could result in the charge being dismissed.  Mejia was arrested on March 9th in Glendale, California after police said they found 13 bags of cocaine in her Gucci purse during a traffic stop.  According to the Associated Press, Mejia will likely be required to undergo counseling and attend classes for the next 18 months. If she completes the deferred judgment program, the felony charge will be dismissed.

Taio Cruz and Demi Lovato will announce the nominations for the 2010 American Music Awards Tuesday morning in Los Angeles.  The American Music Awards will be handed out at the Nokia Theater in L-A on Sunday, November 21st and will air on ABC at 8 PM Eastern. 

MJ AUCTION

An auction of some 100 items of Michael Jackson memorabilia has fetched more than one million dollars, according to the Associated Press.  The auction took place on Saturday in China and drew bidders from around the world.  A basketball autographed by the late singer and Michael Jordan took in 245-thousand dollars.

KANYE ANNOUNCED ALBUM TITLE

Kanye West has finally made up his mind as to what his fifth album will be
titled. The “Power” emcee took to his Twitter account to announce that the
project will be called My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy and fans can expect
the LP to arrive on November 22nd.

LIL WAYNE GOES INTO SOLITARY

According to the New York Daily News, Lil Wayne was forced into solitary
confinement after contraband – an MP3 player charger and headphones – were
found in his prison cell last May. However, the minor infraction will not
disrupt Wayne’s early release date – which was contingent upon good
behavior. A spokesperson for the New York City Department of Correction
explained to MTV News that “it’s a serous infraction because it’s
contraband, but it’s not a weapon, and by comparison to a more violent
infraction of the rules, like assaulting another inmate or an officer, [it's
not as serious].” The mogul is expected to walk out of Riker’s Island on
November 4th.

MIGUEL TALKS “ALL I WANT IS YOU”

the school’s Haitian initiative. Clef said in a statement, “I hope to make a
genuine contribution to the rich intellectual community at the University
and to its Haitian Initiative in particular.”

Justin Timberlake announced that Elton John will join him as a special guest
at Justin Timberlake and Friends concert on October 23rd in Las Vegas.  The
event, which benefits Shriners Hospitals for Children, also features
performances by Christina Aguilera, Diddy-Dirty Money, Lady Antebellum and
others.  It takes place at the Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino’s Theatre
for the Performing Arts.

RIHANNA BASHES PERRY, GAGA AND KE$HA

Does Rihanna not think much of her pop-music peers?  According to the New
York Daily News, the “Umbrella” singer was speaking to the BBC about her
forthcoming album Loud, and said that she doesn’t “want the generic pop
record that Ke$ha or Lady Gaga or Katy Perry would do” and that “every song”
is tailored to her liking.  The comments were unexpected because Rihanna and
Perry are very good friends, while Ri-Ri chose Ke$ha to open up for her on
her recent Last Girl on Earth tour.

ROCK BAND HITS MILESTONE

With the help of Jimi Hendrix, Rock Band has hit a milestone.  The video
game now offers two-thousand songs for players to rock with, thanks to the
addition of the Jimi Hendrix Experience’s classic track “Are You
Experienced?”  The song and a handful of others will be available next week,

MARIO STILL LOVES HIS MOM

While he wasn’t allowed to comment on his recent arrest for assault, Mario
told Us Weekly that he “loves” his mom, Shawntia Hardaway, “very much.” The
short statement comes just a few days after the corner allegedly pushed his
mother “eight feet into a living room wall” in their shared Baltimore
apartment. There’s whisper that Hardaway’s drug abuse may have caused the
scuffle, but those allegations are yet to be confirmed. In related news, the
crooner tweeted, “These past couple of days have been extremely difficult

GAGA APPROACHES ONE-BILLION YOUTUBE VIEWS

Lady Gaga keeps reaching milestone after milestone.  According to Billboard,
the pop star is set to surpass one-billion all-time YouTube views of her
videos later this month.  Gaga averages around 1.8-million views per day, so
if she keeps up that pace, she’ll hit one-billion right around October 20th.

WINEHOUSE NOT READY FOR KIDS

Amy Winehouse is not ready to have children.  In an interview with Britain’s
Glamour magazine, the embattled singer said that as of right now, she’s
“happy to be the godmum or the fun auntie,” and stressed that she’s “not
going to be getting pregnant in the next nine months!”

P!NK TO MARRY GAY COUPLE IN NEW VIDEO

P!nk is casting for a music video for her new song “Raise Your Glass,” and
according to PerezHilton.com, the “So What” singer is looking for “real gay
couples” to audition to be the leads in the clip, because P!nk is going to
marry them in the video.  No word on when the video will begin shooting.

JAY-Z READIES DECODED BOOK

We previously reported Jay-Z was looking to release a series of books that
would describe the meaning behind some of his most controversial records.
Well it looks like Hov has completed the first volume, which is called
Decoded. The rapper’s first literary effort will hit bookstores on November
16th. In related news, fans can expect Jay to release a memoir and a
business book in the near future.

*       Jay-Z said in a statement, “When I first started working on this
book, I told my editor that I wanted it to do three important things. The
first was to make the case that hip-hop lyrics-not just my lyrics, but those
of every great MC-are poetry if you look at them closely enough. The second
was I wanted the book to tell a little bit of the story of my generation, to
show the context for the choices we made at a violent and chaotic crossroads
in recent history.  And the third piece was that I wanted the book to show
how hip-hop created a way to take a very specific and powerful experience
and turn it into a story that everyone in the world could feel and relate
to.”

KERI DROPS “BREAKING POINT” VIDEO

The official music video for Keri Hilson’s latest single, “Breaking Point,”
has just surfaced. The song will serve as the lead from her forthcoming
sophomore album, No Boys Allowed. It’s unknown when the disc will hit stores

TREY SONGZ ENTERS BILLBOARD 200 CHART

Trey Songz took the number two spot on the Billboard 200 chart after his Passion, Pain & Pleasure disc sold over 240-thousand copies. The “Bottoms Up” singer recently told us that thanks to the gradual success of his

In the new issue of XXL, Kanye West recalled his feelings when he heard that
President Barack Obama called him a “jackass” for interrupting Taylor Swift
during the 2009 MTV VMA’s. ‘Ye stated, “Obama was supposed to be speaking
off the record” and “has way more important stuff to worry about than my
public perception.” West added, “If he said that to relate to the room or
lighten the room up, then I’d be more than happy to be the butt of all of

MAN STALKING MADONNA ARRESTED

An ex-firefighter was arrested for the second time in four days for stalking
Madonna.  According to the New York Post, Robert Linhart was picked up
outside of Madonna’s Upper West Side apartment with a sign reading,
“Madonna, I need you” and asking her to make his dream “come true.”  He’s
been charged with criminal weapons possession because he had two knives on
him.  Other charges include disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.  Learn

EMINEM GOES DOUBLE PLATINUM!

It didn’t take long for Eminem’s critically acclaimed Recovery album to
achieve double platinum status. In fact, Slim Shady’s disc, which includes
“Not Afraid” and “The Way You Lie” featuring Rihanna, sold well over
two-million copies in only two weeks. According to Nielsen SoundScan, Em
managed to sell an additional 132-thousand copies last week, which pushed
his grand total to 2.1-mil.

B.O.B EXCITED TO PERFORM AT THE 2010 MTV VMAs!

With his smash hit single “Nothing On You” featuring Bruno Mars and the
equally explosive follow-up “Airplanes” with Paramore’s Hayley Williams,
B.o.B deserves all the nominations he’s received for the 2010 MTV Video
Music Awards. The Grand Hustle artist is expected to perform during the big
show and he’s able to keep his cool by looking at his success in a very
humble way. B.o.B will take stage on Sunday, September 12th at 9 PM.

UPDATE ON RIHANNA’S NEXT ALBUM

Producer Alex Da Kid told JustJared.com that fans can expect Rihanna’s next
album to be “strong, fun, and sassy.” The hit-maker has already contributed
to Ri Ri’s follow-up to Rated R and added the disc has “a mixture of her two
sides. It’s commercial, but at the same time it’s got an edge to it-it has
substance.” In addition, people from the singer’s label are looking to

KERI DROPS FIRST SINGLE OFF NO BOYS ALLOWED

After the success of her In A Perfect World debut, the pressure is on for
Keri Hilson. We caught up with the “Knock You Down” singer to find out the
status and direction of her sophomore album.

“I feel like this album honed in on what makes Keri special and
indifferent, and I think that it’s even more a lane for me, which is what I
wanted to accomplish for people to understand. It’s great, the comparison to
great people is awesome but this is who I am. So, I got to dive more into
that.”

According to an official press release, Miss Keri’s new album is titled No
Boys Allowed. The first single was produced by Timbaland and it’s called
“Breaking Point.”

According to TMZ, Method Man is looking to sue for being injured during his

which caused a laceration under his left eye. The rapper intends to file a
lawsuit because he doesn’t “condone throwing things at the talent while
they’re performing. It takes a lot of heart and balls to continue performing

Lady Gaga recently announced that she’s still working on her highly
anticipated next album.  Producer RedOne heard some of it already and said
that it’s going to be “shocking.”  The producer, who was behind Gaga’s
breakout hit “Just Dance,” told Billboard.com that he worked on two tracks
for the project and that it’s going to make people say, “Oh my God! We
didn’t expect this!”  RedOne also said that he encouraged the pop star to
work with other producers on the new record, but wouldn’t say exactly who.

KATY AND RUSSELL GET COUNSELING

Katy Perry and Russell Brand are set to get married in the coming months,
and it appears that the couple is going to a little counseling in
anticipation of their upcoming nuptials.  According to British paper the
Daily Mirror, Perry is worried that the fact that the two are always on the
road could lead to some problems, so they’ve been talking to a therapist for
an hour a day.

ARTISTS REMEMBER TUPAC SHAKUR

Today marks the birthday of the late Tupac Shakur. If the rapper were alive,
he’d be turning 39 years old. On September 13, 1996, the rap legend died
from internal bleeding stemming from a drive-by shooting in Las Vegas;
however his presence is still felt.  We will never forget the contributions Pac
made to hip hop, rest in peace.<WM>

 EMINEM EXPLAINS NEAR DEATH EXPERIENCE

Emimen openly recalled his drug-related near death experience with CNN’s
Showbiz Tonight. After revealing that he was near “two hours” away from
dying, Slim Shady admits “it took awhile to admit [he] actually did have a
problem.” As far as being in denial, the rapper explained “the last thing
you want to do in hip-hop is admit that you’re weak. But if I didn’t admit I
was weak with this certain thing I was going to die.” In related news, Em’s

Lady Gaga got caught making an obscene gesture at a baseball game last
weekend, and it seems as if that wasn’t the only incident that she had.
According to the New York Post, the pop star got mad at someone in a
restaurant for taking a picture of her, and a source says that Gaga “pushed
her security team out of the way to confront the shutterbug and demanded he
delete the photo.”  The person who took the pic obliged, and Gaga went back
