FACTS ABOUT THE BET HIP HOP AWARDS:

Since the show’s creation in 2006, BET Hip Hop Awards has honored some of the most top notch artists in hip hop music today and in the past.

HOSTS: In 2006 and 2007, comedian Katt Williams hosted the award ceremony. The following year in 2008, T-Pain lead the show, becoming the only musician to ever host the BET Hip Hop Awards. In 2009, Mike Epps took over the duties and is repeating as host in 2010.

VENUE: From 2006 to 2009, the BET Hip Hop Awards have been held every year at Fox Theatre in Atlanta. Every show has been aired in October, except for the first award ceremony in 2006.

CATEGORIES: Some of the categories at the BET Hip Hop Awards stand out more from your typical awards show. Over the years, some categories got added on and taken away. In 2006, the “Element Award” for producers, directors, lyricists and hip hop dance were the only time the Element Award was introduced. Since then, no other year used the Element Award. In 2008, the ceremony used a category for Ringtone of the Year which was won by Lil Wayne’s single “Lollipop.”
